Title: New Food.....

For a long time now we have been using Royal Canin "Oral Sensitive" (Food #1)....everyone loves it...and it's been great! Then hubby decides to also get Royal Canin "Intense Hairball" (Food #2)....because 3 of the cats are long hairs and he wants to alleviate the hairball situation for them. They ate both foods for a couple months....the past week or so, food #2 wasn't being eaten much if at all. We had them in 2 different bowls.

SO, I thought I'd get them something that was also healthy and I thought they might like that wasn't so involved with hairball. I got a sample package of "Blue Spa Select Indoor" about 3 days ago......(Food #3)....I put it in a different bowl; now there are 3 bowls down, both upstairs and downstairs! :lmao:

Immediately, they ate Food #3, and have been eating #3 ever since along with Food #1..... And no problems at all with poops! :jump:

I'm not sure why they started disliking Food #2.....but, I'm going to discontinue it tonite. Food #2 has chicken meal as first ingredient; Food #3 has deboned chicken as first ingredient along with veggies and fruits down the list.

Any thoughts on why the palate change? They're really not finicky eaters. And, why all of them have a 'beef' with Food #2? :lmao:

Perhaps RC have changed the recipe for that food slightly and we all know how contrary the cats can be! Mine are usually on a mixture of Hills Science and James Wellbeloved. I bought a 10kg bag of JWB a couple of weeks ago and they have turned their cute noses up at it...aaRRRHHHH!!! Mind you, my friend was happy when I gave it to her...lol.

I moved this to nutrition and health since its food related user posted image

I would also say that its possible RC slightly changed their recipe. Not enough to have to announce the changes but just enough for your cats to notice. Cats have highly tuned palates and would notice. Its also possible that they just got bored with the "new" food (since it was the second introduced) and went back to their old fail safe. They may someday get bored of the third one as well.

No matter what the reason though, its not going to hurt them one bit to have a little variety. They like that!

I agree that maybe they just got bored with the new food. That's interesting though.
We have just started ours on The Blue Spa Select (well we're about a month into it). I had left their old food in a sperate feeder (their main one) and after putting down the Blue Spa...they wouldn't eat the old, Natural Balance anymore! :lmao:

You say they are not finicky. I would say maybe they are, or maybe the texture is a little different being a hairball remover. My cats will eat everything, i don't see a difference in how much they like any of them and I am always changing the food, do to specials and new brands but they have ate everything.

:wha: Dunno Gaby!! RC has a finicky cat food, too, now. My crew LOVES it. So much I discontinued it. :rotfl: Jones is still getting fatter. He was eating everyone else's food, too. I put them on RC Beauty & Fit. Looks like little brown Cheerios. Too bad it doesn't smell like it, too. :duh:

I typically rotate between Indoor, Light, and a random RC food. Maybe #2 wasn't as tasty as the others and now that they've had something tasier, they don't want to go back!

Oh my girls LOVED RC Beauty and Fit. Too bad I can't get it all the time. :( But when I do see it, I pick it up!

Well, they are still enjoying the dry Food #1 Royal Canin Oral Sensitive and Food #3 Blue Spa Select....poops are all fine, etc. :jump:

Of course, they still are CRAZY bout the Liv-A-Littles treats! Yowza! :lmao:
