Title: Water bowl

Suzie likes to put her paws and food into her water bowl :pullhair: :coocoo:
It gets so annoying to have to clean up the water on the floor, so in the act of her doing it, I took her bowl and said no, and she ran upstairs. Why does she do this? :coocoo:

Actually, a lot of cats put their paws in their water bowl. My Maggie did that -- it's how she would drink, like she was scooping up a pawful of water and bringing it up to her mouth (like a human would scoop up a handful of water and drink). We never managed to get her to drink any other way, so we just made sure to change the water often (as I'm not sure she washed her paws between litter box and drinking :yuck:).
As for the food... maybe Suzie thinks it's too dry, or it needs washing? :wha:

Thanks for the reply :)
I change the water twice a day.
I read online that cats put objects into their water bowl to see how much water there is? Maybe that's what she's doing? It also reccomends FreshFlow, one of those machines that circulate water. I'll have to try it. For now, I put a plastic container under her water bowl.

Or maybe you have a budding chef, and she's trying to make soup! ;)

Dallas does that all the time...he pulls on it and tips it too. I'm forever cleaning up water...so I went and bought a wide bottomed dog bowl so he can't tip it anymore!!

My Taz often puts a paw in the bowl first before drinking so I guess it is to guage the level. However they prefer to use the water fountain I have downstairs.

Or I can try a dog bowl like Janice mentioned. Thanks for the replies! :)

I am going to get a fresh water fountain for her, but I don't know which one to get. :wha: There's 2 or more of them, and I remember a thread about them, but I can't find it.

Skyler is the one who loves water and plays in it....he has a special 'ring' that I gave him when I gave blood....he plays with it all the time; drops it in the water bowl upstairs; there's water all around. I have since put a plastic mat under it that has raised edges.
He also plays with the Drinkwell that is downstairs....he will move it from one end of the plastic mat that we have it on, to the other! :rotfl:
The one thing with the Drinkwell, and perhaps those other fountains, is that even though the water circulates, it needs to be taken apart and cleaned every 3-4 days cause it gets slimey. It's not a big deal though. And, of course, I'm sure Suzie will be there to 'help' just as ours are! :lmao:

David, I have the FreshFlow and love it. And so do my cats. ;) Well worth the money.

Thanks for the replies. :)
I think I'm going to get the FreshFlow, since it takes up less room than the DrinkWell.
I won't mind cleaning it, as long as she drinks the water and doesn't tip over the bowl. :lmao:

When I went with a couple cat fountains my male cat would bat them around before drinking. Often knocking the lid off, spilling water all over, etc. Now I use a rubber band to keep the lid on and I use carpet tape and tape the fountain to a rubber mat which sits on the floor. After a while he gave up batting at the fountain because it refused to fall apart or move around for him :jump:
