Title: Keep your fingers crossed...

Donaldjr1969 - March 10, 2007 01:33 AM (GMT)
At that colony of ferals by my house, I did my rounds to look at all of them and see if any more were inside their shelters provided. One of the cats was inside one of them off from the main group and was just looking at me. So I took over one of the many bowls of water and dry food and put it by the shelter. The cat poked her head out and looked at me, but stayed inside. Now I put my hand close for her to sniff and she sniffed me but did not hiss, run, swat, bite, etc. I found an empty bowl and put a can of canned food in it and showed it to her. She came out and started to eat. Well, I was able to pet her and she liked it! :) Then I went for broke and picked her up and held her. She IMMEDIATELY started to purr! So I sense that this is NOT a feral but rather a housecat that was dumped. :( After all, the ferals will scoot when I try to pet them. I called mom and told her and mom is not sure if she can afford to have her spayed but wants me to keep an eye on her. I think my mom will try to see if she can come up with the money to pay for a spay.

So...let's hope that my mom can find it in her budget to get a cat spayed AND that I can find this cat during a future visit to the colony! She was not associating with the ferals so I hope that putting food by where I found her will keep her close to that shelter. Also, she now has my scent so that may help. I too cannot afford to spay her as I need glasses along with a new hot water tank otherwise she would be in my house right now. I would so much like to give this cat a loving home and mom would love to have a cat of her own. Her husband has a cat but she wants another one that SHE HERSELF got. So...plz keep your fingers crossed for me! :D

Well, she has the cat!!!!! :D Of course, her hubby's cat was fit to be tied, but we are going to do a careful introduction. But her behavior is definitely indicative of a housecat.

She seems healthy save for a slight wheeziness out of her nose. But it has been very cold earlier in the week. Mom will get her in to a vet ASAP. So now one hurdle has been crossed! :)

Well, she has been doing fine at Mom's place. Her name right now is Zoe Happycat! :) She is SO HAPPY to have a home again! The other cat hissed and got mad but that was no problem. Zoe is behind a baby gate right now to keep her away from the dogs and the other cat yet still allow her to see them. Last night, mom had her out and she was just laying on the couch purring away. The dogs could care less about Zoe so I feel that she will get used to them right away. Zoe only hissed when a dog got too close and startled her.

I have a few pix of her. I will be posting them right away in the cat photo section under the title Zoe Happycat. She is such a cutie!!! :)

She is really doing well. She still likes to go under the bed but she is so content there. At least she is purring. Last night when I was over, she came to me as I layed on the floor. She does that for mom as well. Now she did come totally out right away as I was unwrapping a piece of candy! But when I left to go home, I placed her on top the bed as it has a very soft comforter. I even told her it is more comfy to lay on top. :) And she was still laying there when I left.

I told mom to be sure to spend a lot of time with Chloe. As I mentioned in her photo thread, Mom kept saying Chloe so that is the name that stuck rather than Zoe. Chloe has already bonded with me because she remembers me placing food right by her shelter so she did not have to wander too close to the ferals. Also, she remembers me picking her up and holding her. But I figure she will biond with everybody.
