Note: Instead of the usual "16 pet deaths have been reported", in this alert
they are actually stating:

"As of April 26, 2007, FDA had received over 17,000 consumer complaints
relating to this outbreak, and those complaints included reports of
approximately 1950 deaths of cats and 2200 deaths of dogs."

How many more have gone undetected? and or reported?
Considering the numbers are low compared to the numbers in the general pet population in the USA alone.
IF it was higher we would be hearing about larger numbers of deaths to pets from the vets offices across the country.
It would be an epidemic preportions.

Just a thought makes you go hummmmmmmm.

You know, I never reported Tabby's death to the FDA. (Although I did contact a law firm for a class action.) I wonder if that's something I need to do??

Lisa, I wouldn't hesitate!

There was a report on CNN this morning about the pet-food recalls and they mentioned how it was (the food) fed to hogs and that the meat won't be sent to markets. Yeah sure...how are we to really know?

If you look on Itchmo you can see a link to an article that says at least 45 people (so far) have been known to have eaten tainted pork from the hogs that were fed the tainted pet food. It's already made it into the human food supply.

I'm already refusing to buy or eat any food I know is produced in or made with ingredients from China (or from any foreign country, really) and the Paleo diet is starting to sound better and better every day. I originally considered it to lose weight, but it might be a lot safer than anything else now since you only eat fresh, unprocessed food on it. :hmm:

Lisa  Your loss is absolutely relevant and deserves to be noted.

I'm just stunned at the magnitude of this problem. How many pet mommies and daddies are with empty arms tonight? :(

S.E.W. - I've heard a lot of good things about the Paleo diet ;) Of course, I'm an anthropology student and inherantly biased towards the diet that humans have been eating for thousands of years
