I've always wondered about the silly little things cats do such as....

Does anyone know whats up with the butt lift. Like they can't bare just to be pet they have to lift their butt high up in the air and give you the almighty butt hole salut.... :coocoo:

:rotfl: I had a cat once, Muffin (RB) who would drop her front half and raise her butt as high as she could. My mom's cat Bebe does it, too. It's so funny! Now, Marley just like to put his butt in your face.

I call it the Elevated Arse. :lol: And I have no idea why they do it either. All of mine do it too. And my old cat KoKo (RB) used to do it too. :)

It's a sign of trust. When one cat meets another cat, if they trust each other, they lift their tails and let each other sniff their butts. The trust is demonstrated by exposing a vital area to the other cat. And sniffing enables them to get to know each other's scent.

So when your cat sticks her butt in your face she's saying, "Hello!! I like you. I trust you. Sniff my butt. Get to know my scent." :)

I don't know why this behavior is triggered by scratching at the base of the tail, though. Maybe someone else knows the answer to that. I'll bet JJ would know the answer. Anybody able to get ahold of her yet?
