Title: Charlie

Jessica - June 7, 2007 11:03 PM (GMT)
:bawling: My mom's cat (family cat) Charlie went to the rainbow bridge this morning. He was 15 years old.

Here is the email I got from my Mom:

Hi Jess

Charlie was such a little trooper. The vet and staff were so nice. The vet was talking to Charlie like he was a person, calling him sweetheart while he examined him.
He had Renal Failure. Kidneys not functioning properly. He said that I could give him some sort of liquid medicine for the rest of his life, but no guarantee. He said his cat had it and as soon as he missed a dose the same thing happened. Given Charlies age and problems he told me not to feel quilty. He won't suffer anymore.

So Charlie's gone.

June 7, 2007.  10:35 am

They took us to a comfortable room with an examining table with a blanket on it and easy chairs. They gave Charlie a needle to make him kind of stoned and left me with him.  He walked around for awhile and then started to stagger. I picked him up and held him like a baby, cradled in my arms and talked to him.
Then a woman came in and asked if I was ready or if I wanted to leave.  I asked if they could do it with him in my arms.
They shaved his front paw and gave him the needle. She said that by the time they take out the needle he'll be gone. (Thank God it's that fast).  As soon as she took out the needle she put the stethescope on him and said, he's gone.
I started crying again and she asked if I wanted to be alone with him for awhile. I sat rocking him in my arms for about 10 minutes and talking to him and crying my eyes out.

Charlie is with his daddy now.

Charlie's "daddy" is my Dad. He was his cat, and when my Dad died, Charlie was never the same. I'm going to miss the little boy. We got Charlie back in 1992, when he was a few weeks old. He was a unique cat - very one of a kind. He was also super smart. He was one of those animals that you'd SWEAR were human. And he was such a sucky boy, too, at the same time he was a little snot. One of his nicknames was Charlie Manson. He was one hell of a cat - R.I.P. sweet Char-Char. I love you so much. :( :luv1:

Here he is as a baby:

I'm so sorry, I have tears in my eyes just reading that.

What a gorgeous kitty - he reminds me of a male version of Tinkerbell. I bet he was an amazing cat from what you said.

Actually, my mom's the brave one who was in the room with him when it happened. That was an email I quoted from her. :)
