Title: Pickles

Allie - June 23, 2007 10:29 AM (GMT)
 Hi guys...well it's the morning and all 5 kitties are still standing. Pickles is REALLY nervous...especially now. My kitties are handling him pretty good so far. Georgie is being a drams queen...what else is new? :giggle:
I was wondering if you guys had any tips on how to make him comfortable quicker? He does come out to see us for 1/2 a second gives heads butts and rubs..then gets wigged out & cringes. :( He wanders around the bedrooms but hasn't ventured out to the rest of the apartment.
He has been under my rocking chair in the bedroom since we went to be at 2am...I know he will probably take awhile to adjust. He is 6 years old.
So any advice that you think could help us out. Please let me know....this is my first "rescue" (saved him from 4 kids who won't leave him alone) He wouldn't even come out the carrier if the kids we too close. He likes adults tho.
:comfort: Poor Pickles.

I really don't have any suggestions. Maybe you could have a big treat feast and get all the kitties in on it. Unless you worry it would cause confrontation.

You'll have to bond with Pickles somehow. Just spend quality time alone with him and talk to him. Don't try to force the petting/scratching issue; he'll decide when he's ready.

He loves being petted and scratches...he comes right up to us. I did the treat thing...made a trail from his hiding spot to me...and it worked. He is staying our bedroom..but makes it as far as the cats' room right next to it. He doesn't mind the other cats. It's like my foursome knows not to be mean or dominant with him right now. Lucky isn't any more cranky.
I will look out for redirected aggression over the next few months.
We've been taking turns spending time in the room with him...then together but the problem right now is...if we are both in the room the others come in and make him uncomfortable. He is constanly doing the uncomfortable smackingof the lips and swallowing. :giggle: That's how you know he's ready to bite you. ;) :lmao:

A couple of our friend were by today and Pickles let them pat him. :jump: He loves attention. :kittyluv: He purred for me too. :luv1:
He came out out the living room for like a minute today...Ty's chair made an odd sound, which sent Pickles running back into the bedroom. :giggle: They are so silly when they are nervous. He looks short b/c he walks so low to the floor. :lmao:
As I type this he is sitting on the floor in the dining area...he's checking the place out. :jump:
I think that if we just give enough attention & space he'll be fine. The other cats are amazing me...they haven't approached him yet, but watch him. At this rate he'll be one of the family by next week. ;)

Sounds like everything is working out great for him and everyone!

:luv2: This morning Pickles followed me out to the living room....and stayed for a long time. Laying on the floor. The other kitties were sleeping. He even came out for treat time but wouldn't eat the treats unless he was in our bedroom. He is so vocal...not meows but trills, very deep ones. I am use to Lucky's girly chirps and trills. :giggle:
For an "only child" he know how to let the others go about their own business.

This cat is awesome so far...no more nervous than Lucky on a regular basis. I hope the next while is as smooth sailing as the past day and half. :kittyluv:
