Title: Bad Lucky!
Allie - June 27, 2007 05:51 PM (GMT)
:wha: Last night for no reason Lucky attacked Jake, then later Pickles. Little Jake was sleeping for hours under the coffee table...I was sitting on the floor by it. Miss B!tch comes strolling in for attention from me...noticed Jake sniffed him then meow/whined  then pounced on Jake. He was so stunned looking. :giggle:
"Like what the heck did I do to her??"
Later on Pickles was coming out of the kitchen thru the dinning area by where Lucky was eating. Suddenly she pounced on Pickles who ran away low to the ground. :( He didn't come out for a bit...he was hiding from Lucky under a table in the kitty room. He did come out but he is now VERY wary of her.
Seriously what is up with Lucky? It seems like jealousy but why, she gets more than enough attention. Whenever you go to the bathroom she is usually there...hello?
I think I am going to have to go to the vets about her...I am scared she could hurt Pickles (since he's front paws were declawed :pullhair: ).
She is pretty good most of the time...but when she is mean she is really mean. Jake won't even stay in the same room alone with her. :eep22: Now Pickles probably won't either...he hasn't gotten timid b/c of her tho.

It sounds like Lucky is a jealous kitty and does not like the new blood invading her territory. I think taking her to the vet would be a great idea. Discuss her behavior and perhaps s/he can prescribe some meds. It has worked wonders here!!!

I have to agree with Elizabeth. It could also be stress with having a new cat in the house.
Allie - June 28, 2007 11:58 AM (GMT)
She's been stressed out about Jake for months now...so adding Pickles to the mix may have made her worse. She is fine for the most part but if she wants our attention & someone else is in her way... oh boy.

I have to agree with Liz. I think it would be a great idea to talk to the vet about her behavior!
Allie - June 28, 2007 04:01 PM (GMT)
:coocoo: Now she is playing with Jake but still hissing at him...even tho she is chasing him. They are playing tag I guess. :giggle: Jake is being a pain I think...her eyes don't have the evil look either. :wha:
I just don't understand her...do I have to make an appointment or can I just talk tot he vet over the phone. I need to find out how much money an examination will cost and meds (just in case). I REALLY hate the idea of spending money on something that you normally wouldn't have to spend money. Personally Lucky should have been the youngest or the only child...err cat  :lmao: I am always speaking of them as if they are people.

Allie, you can try calling them. :wha: I don't know what your vet's policies are, so you might have to take her in for an appointment. But it never hurts to try!

I talked to a veterinarian assistant over the phone...she said that it sound likes Lucky may be insecure. She taken from her Mom too early...we got her at 6 weeks.
She has gotten use to having us to ourselves b/c Milo & Georgie are older and keep to themselves for the most part. If we had of gotten Pickles before Jake...she may reacted differently...b/c Pickles is older, keeps to himself.
Jake on the on the hand is young 7.5 months old and is more active/awake & on the same kinda of schedule as Lucky...she is jealous of Jake, not Pickles...what happens when she freaks out on the other cats is redirected aggression. She said to watch her for the next month...if she doesn't get worse she should be fine but if she gets more aggressive...meds for her or a new home. (My Parents) :(
I only see jealousy in her eyes...not anger...so hopefully since there won't be any more kitties added to the mix...not for a long time or until someone unfortunately passes.
What he VA said makes sense...man kitties are a lot like people. :coocoo:

Can you give her Lucky time? I had to do Sasha time, and now Marley time. Both Sasha & Marley got a "predator" look in their eyes. I didn't like it one bit.
I'm sure Lucky will be fine. It doesn't sound like they're fighting. I thought for sure Marley would have to be rehomed, but the meds are awesome. They only cost $3, too!! The behavior consultation was $150. :)

I give her lots of Lucky time...she has me to herself most of the afternoon...she was purring & being cute with me today. I've decided that when someone else butts in during Lucky time...I will shoo them away for a bit..then see them. :dunno2: I know in time when all the kitties get use to the way it is...things will be fine.
:giggle: I have to laugh at myself...I find myself saying hello, or I love you to one cat...then going room to room to make sure I say hello/love you to everyone...just in case someone may get offended. :coocoo: The things we do to make sure everyone is happy.
I imagine a consultation here would be roughly the same price a tad more...since we are just behind the US dollar now.

What's weird about that? It's just good manners to say 'hello' to your cats -- and to make sure to speak to all of them (yes, I am serious!).
From my observations of having cats and dogs for most of my 44 years, they do have a sense of what's rude and what's polite, and they also have a sense of embarrassment and can get jealous.
The thing is, the average domestic cat has an emotional functioning similar to that of a human toddler to 5-year-old, but with other issues tossed in that make sense only to cats. There's no doubt in my mind that they are people -- just another species. They're self-aware, but much more challenging to figure out because they can't speak English.

 I don't know what to add....I'm glad she's pseudo-playing with Jake, however, I hope she doesn't frighten poor Pickles so that he gets messed up.
Often people will put baby powder on each of their kitties on introduction; I wonder if that would help with Lucky? I know they've already been introduced, but it couldn't hurt. JMHO
We always have to give our kids equal time; sometimes, though, one or 2 or 3 are sleeping, so it's ok. ;)
Wishing you a quick solution, Allie!

I said they have a sense of rude and polite; I didn't say it was the same as what we think is rude and polite. ;)
Chloe thinks it's the height of bad manners for me to talk on the phone when she wants my attention, and sometimes she's just stepped on the phone and cut me off! :pullhair:
Gussy thinks it's perfectly good manners to stomp all over me in bed -- after all, I'm his mom, right? And the first thing Chloe does when she jumps up on me in bed is turn around so I can sniff her backside (:yuck:) -- because that's considered normal manners in cat society. And no matter how many times I physically turn her around or yell at her, she keeps on doing it, like she figures, "Well, you can be rude if you want to, but I have manners!" :boggled:
As for why they trip us... I think that they must consider it fun... :coocoo:
