The abandoned housecat I rescued amongst the feral colony at the end of winter, Chloe, got outside and was not seen for a couple days. Well when I called my mom to let her know I arrived safely in Centralia yesterday, she gave me the most horrible news. Chloe was found dead in the street yesterday morning...and she was still warm!!! :bawling: :bawling: :bawling: We think she waas trying to come home. Mom and I are just devastated over this. But if there is anything to take solace in, it would be the fact she spent the last 5 months of her life with people that loved her. She was well fed and kept warm rather than freeze to death outside and rely on the generosity of strangers from the feral colony to feed her. I will NEVER FORGET how she purred when I first held her... :bawling:
Mom took in a then 6-8 week old kitten at the beginning of May. Today she was taken to be spayed. When Lily gets home from the vet, she is coming to live with me. Mom does not want to spend the money to have her spayed only to face the same heartache from losing this kitten. It was hard enough for her to bury Chloe while I was gone and she does not want to do it again. Poopsie will just have to accept Lily.
Goodbye Chloe... For the short time you were with mom, I loved you so much. I will miss you. :bawling:

I'm so sorry to hear this. She was had a wonderful 5 months with a wonderful owner and I am sure she was happy to be your cat.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It really did put a damper on my Centralia visit as I was standing right along the collapsed highway talking to mom about it. I just wonder if I could have maybe caught her in time by looking for her before I departed. Maybe I should have kept Chloe myself as it ias harder for any cat to get out at my house. Oh well, it's too late for that now.
It is going to bother us for a long time, but at least we have months of great memories.
