This summer I have had Lilly to the vet numerous times because of her anal glands and when we first arrived in Alberta in April, I wanted to put them on a good food, so the vet suggested Science Diet, Advanced Protection so I switched them and they loved it but Lilly gained 2 pounds on it and she was overweight to begin with, so another visit to the vet, they wanted her switched to Royal Canin, Calorie Control. I was trying to feed molly and lilly both different foods and it wasnt working so I mixed the two kinds and have been as the vet said it was ok, but I ran out of the advanced protection the other day and called the vet down here to see if they had any and they didnt and the guy there told me I shouldnt mix the foods and they can both eat the calorie control. Molly is not overweight but she had lost her front tooth last year and I find with her eating the calorie control, the pebbles are larger, she doesnt eat as much and drools.
I dont know if its hurting her or what to do.
Yeah, it shouldn't hurt Lily to eat the calorie control, but if the pieces are too big, that is no good either. Did you call every vet around to see if anyone carries it? In Sydney River, there is a farmer's co-op and they sell some premium brands, I don't know which ones specifically, but give them a call. They may be your best bet around there. Its called the United Farmer's Co-operative and its on Keltic Drive. The one thing that Sydney is lacking is a quality pet store!
I'm assuming this is a dry food? If its hurts to chew or its too big perhaps you could soak the food a bit in some chicken or beef broth, or even a bit of water and let the food make its own gravy and make it more palatable. Wouldn't add any extra calories and you can buy the very low sodium broth. All this with your vet of approval of course.
