Title: Tigger's new house

Crystal - November 12, 2007 05:05 PM (GMT)
Since Tigger has made his home here in our yard (original thread), I've wanted to make the outside porch even nicer for him. Erik, my dad, and I made that happen these past two weeks. Erik closed all the windows (they're kinda shitty so I wasn't able to get them down myself) which increased the temperature soooo much and we built him a huge "house."

The house consists of three pieces - I pieces together a picture of the full inside below. The largest piece is 6 feet long, 3 feet tall, and 2 feet wide. The medium-sized piece is 2 feet tall, 3 feet long, and 2 feet wide. They're both hollow and carpeted on the ground, and we also bought an extra nice blanket mat from Petsmart that's inside at the corner. The large piece is level with the bottom of the windows so he can watch the birds eating from the birdfeeder right outside. The third piece - the step piece on top - is level with the window to my office so he can see in. It's hollow so he can sit inside of it as well (see additional pictures). We also put out a floor-to-ceiling scratching post that our cats used to use (and they got a newer one), another scratching post that coincidentally matched the carpet we bought, and a pillow I made (which he sleeps on all the time, he loves it).

A few weeks ago, we winterized Tigger's house. We put up plastic on all the windows and over the door, and he now has a heater (last winter I had him stay in the basement).

It stays SO WARM in there. When we first put up the plastic, there was a noticeable difference inside - and now with the heater, which is on a timer, it's cozy in there. It's freezing out tonight but I was able to sit in there comfortably with him.

The little guy never leaves it seems like - he's always in there. I'm so glad he's made it his home - I worry about him out there, but he really only seems to go out to go to the bathroom and to roam a bit (but ever since he was inside last year, he doesn't go far).

Here's where his food is kept so I can see it from the window in our office to make sure it's full.

Here he is on his couch, where he can often be found sleeping.

We have the heater in the middle of the room but near the couch so it keeps him warm.

Here's his other favorite sleeping spot, the pillow I made him. I've set up the trash can by the door, covered by a blanket to block the cold air when he's sleeping there.

And the gorgeous boy - these were taken in the dark, sorry the red eye.
