Title: I seem to have a scaredy cat....

My little Rosie seems to be getting more and more nervous!

At first she was fine - she'd join in with the others, and put in appearance if I have visitors....

Lately though, she's been getting more and more nervous - even with me! I first started to notice it when I went to give her a tickle behind the ears, and she'd back away - but was fine when I stroked her back.

If she's at the bottom of the stairs and I'm walking down the stairs, she'll run away. I feel like she thinks I'm going to step on her or something!

And just lately, if anyone's come round to visit, she hides under the sink and crawls behind the washing machine, and only comes out when they've gone!

I'm getting a little bit worried - she seems to be showing characteristics of an abused kitten or something! Like she's been kicked round the head or stepped on or something.... which hasn't happened!

I thought maybe she has a problem with her ears - could be why she doesn't like being touched around the head.... but when I've finally got her to let me have a look everything looks fine.

Does anybody think this could be worth a vet visit? I'm a bit worried about her, but there's nothing obviously wrong with her! Apart from her getting more nervous....

Lucky went thru a scardey cat phase too. She was terrified of people and loud noises. She got over it. I'd keep an eye on Rosie for a few more days...something could have just spooked her. The busy holiday sound & all. I'd take a look in her ears tho...just in case.
I hope she gets over whatever it is. :kittyluv:

I agree - I'd keep an eye on her and if it doesn't seem to get better, maybe a vet visit is in order just to double check. Something about that just doesn't seem right...

My first Cleopatra (may she rest in peace) was the exact same way. She was SUPER timid, and one who didn't know better would swear she was abused. Unless it was of her own accord, when anyone would try to pet her, she would shy away like she was afraid of being hit. It broke my heart, but according to the vet, it was just a personality quirk. Hopefully it's nothing more than a phase for Rosie! :comfort:

Abbey still gets like that sometimes. Not so much hiding and such, but the simplest things will scare her. For example, if something is on the floor that wasn't there the last time she walked past that spot, she will freak out, scared to death of it. Hopefully its just a phase that Rosie is going through. How old is she now?

She's about 8 months now. The last couple of days she hasn't been as scaredy with me - I think Spike brings her out of her shell!
She wouldn't come out of hiding on Saturday when my friend visited though (despite the offer of a catnip mouse) - and my friend was here for a couple of hours.
