Title: Teeny Problem

Well, with our Christmas money this year, Rob and I decided to buy a flat panel widescreen computer monitor. Its awesome, but here's the problem. Both kitties LOVED to sleep on our old monitor. How do we teach them that they can't fit on this one? Lola has already knocked the new monitor onto the floor (we thought it was broken for sure!) and Abbey just now tried to jump on it again.

Has anyone recently switched to a flat panel and had a similar experience?

Wow...what an issue!

I've always had laptops and flat screens so my cats don't even know to go on top of the monitors.

Let me think a bit and see if I can come up with something...

Oh boy. Our cats have never attempted to climb on our old monitors. Maybe you could try placing something beside the new monitor (like a box or a pillow) for them to stretch out on so they still feel part of the action and able to hang out with you?

That is a tricky one - when I just had Motley I had a big monitor with my computer that I used for my college work ( no internet in them days!) and she was always sleeping on top of it - I remember typing up my thesis and having to move her tail out of the way at regular intervals! :rotfl:

Then I moved and didn't have room for the old computer, so I guess she forgot about it by the time I got this one which came with a flat screen monitor! Now she just jumps on my knee or lies across my arms while I'm using it......

I'll be interested if anyone has any solutions, as I need a new TV.... it'll probably be a flatscreen one, and at the mo ALL the kitties use the TV as a springboard to get up onto the wall unit.......

I wonder if they like the monitor because its warm, if so maybe a heated pad in a cat bed or you can buy heated pet beds.

We ended up building a wooden structure around the monitor. Its looks awful, but it works. I would much prefer to have a not so nice looking computer desk than a broken monitor.

Ah, nice job!

So do you find them sleeping on top of it?

No! That's the kicker!! Now that there is something surrounding it and they CAN go up there, they don't want to anymore! Darn cats! :lmao:
