Title: Swollen Teats

Susan - January 3, 2008 09:05 PM (GMT)
How's that for an attention getter?? LOL

We have noticed that Mary's teats are quite swollen as though she were pregnant. She's gotten very vocal and very clingy too. Now we know she can't be because, although she isn't fixed, all our other cats are and she never goes outside. She has been pregnant before (that's where we got Fraulein VonStashvitz) but that was a long time ago.

Could it be she is going through a false pregnancy?

False pregnancy is possible, along with a couple other conditions. I would suggest a vet visit to be sure.

I read it's rare in cats, but can happen. It also said if she mated with a neutered male it can cause her to release eggs. I think taking her to the vet would be best just to make sure there isn't an underlying problem.

Well Timm does try and mount her when she has a heat, but it's a train wreck because he's so full of the stupids! :rotfl:

Brandon's calling the vets today.

She's not in heat, is she?

Susan - January 4, 2008 03:12 PM (GMT)
I don't think so Crystal. She's not acting like she normally does in a heat, she's not presenting and her back end isn't warm.

Mary's going in at 3 on Monday, so that Mammary Cancer can be ruled out. :crossed:

Well it's confirmed, Mary is just going through a false pregnancy, no cancer! :jump:

Good news, Susan!

Wonderful news!

This reminds me of a dog that came in a few weeks ago. She just had pups and hers were swollen so badly with an infection she couldn't nurse anymore. She was like a little rat terrier or chihuahua and her teats were as big as her! Another rescue dog came in to have a reduction. She had been bred so many times she was sagging tremendously!

Thanks everyone! We are so happy and relieved.

Elizabeth, oh my!! Poor things. :( My other halfs mother fosters for a small breed rescue group and I've heard many horror stories. 2 of the dogs she ended up adopting, they were sisters who had literally spend their entire lives inside a crate for 8 years..pregnant for most of those 8 years. They had a lot of health problems and have since passed on, but the last years of their lives were at least full of love and non stop pampering.

:jump: :jump: So glad it was nothing serious!
