Title: Vomiting 8 times in 2 hours??

Elizabeth - January 6, 2008 12:30 AM (GMT)
Sasha hardly ever throws up. Well, at around 4, she did 4 times. There was a tiny bit of fur in the first, but mostly pure liquid. The other puddles were solid yellow liquid. Then, about 30 minutes ago she threw up a HUGE puddle of pure clear liquid (water?) and then immediately threw up foam, followed immediately by more clear fluid. Poor girl. Ten minutes after that she threw up more liquid with a tiny bit of fur.

Could this be a stubborn hairball?? Can cats throw up everything but the hairball? There was no food in any of the puddles and come to think of it, she hasn't eaten much. She eats maybe 3 or 4 kibble then walks away.

She obviously feels bad right now, but so would I if I threw up 8 times in 2 hours. I called the emergency vet clinic to see if they would tell me if a hairball can get lodged and only liquids come up. But of course, they can't diagnose over the phone. I know, I work in a vet clinic. But I thought worth a shot. :duh:

Our clinic doesn't open again until Tuesday. Boo.

Liz,

Molly throws up often from hairballs and its just a long stick of hair but from what your saying.. maybe the hairball is lodged and its gagging her and the only thing to pass through is liquid?
I bought this hairball treatment for Molly and you put it on her paws... Maybe go out tomorrow and get something like that and if shes still doing it, take her to the vet on Monday.
Just make sure shes drinking and keeping hydrated. Even if you open her mouth and splash some water in it or wet her tongue.

Im not sure, but thats the best advise I can offer..
Hope shes ok:)

Thanks.

I went and bought some Laxatone from Petsmart and she wasn't happy when I put it on her paws. :duh: She did eat a little, so that was good. I hadn't seen her eat all day (no food was present in her vomit). I was concerned that she was throwing up the water she was drinking, as she seems a bit dehydrated. Her nose is dry and warm (that does not always indicate fever), but her ears are also very warm. Still doesn't always mean anything.

I'm hopeful it's just a stubborn hairball.

I'd keep an eye on her. Tink does that from time to time - throws up multiple times and it's just liquid. Most of the time it's when she's eaten something she shouldn't (she like to chew on toilet paper).

It could be something she's trying to throw up but can't. Obviously watch for diarrhea and eating/drinking patterns...I know you know that.

Thanks Crystal!

Well, she seems a ok today. She ate and hasn't thrown up. I bet it was just hair gagging her or something. Her energy level is back up and she's her old self. Oh, she DID eat paper yesterday and was chewing on tape. It quite possibly upset her tummy.

Right, Kailie? I was about to take her to the ER! :lmao: That would have been one expensive hairball. :duh:

 Darn hairballs! Milo use to do that before I started giving them cat nip on a regular basis. Now he just pukes when he gorges on his food. :wha:
