what are the odds of taking a feral cat from one location and releasing her in another? The place where I work has not allowed the cat people to put out food here anymore. they have been feeding the cats for at least the 9 years I have been there. The cats were trapped and released elsewhere but this one girl keeps coming back and is starving. I want to take her to my town 30 miles away and release her into another feral colony there. What are her chances do you think? Will she try to go back? She will have to cross a river is she does.

I don't know if this site may help you...

I'm sure some of the other members may have some good tips too!

I'm not sure at all! That's a good question. I know they use physical boundaries (houses, streets, etc.) to set up their "territory" - but I don't know how they'd adjust to a new area. I'm assuming they'd have to just go with it and figure it out.

I think the best bet would be to contact local non-kill shelters and rescue groups - they're probably pretty knowledgeable about how you should go about that because most do trapping/spaying&neutering/returning programs.

Just wanted to give an update. It was agreed if they move the feeding station to the very back of the industrial park the cat people can continue to feed them. I guess it is working. She came to visit today and although she is still a bit skinny she is filling out more. I just happened to have a can of food which I gave her. She let me get close but not enough to touch. I am so glad it worked out this way!!!! It has been 6 months since I have seen her and I am so relieved that I didn't try to move her.
