Title: fleas, worms, and a hernia?? What to do?
Description: fleas, worms, hernias

I feel so bad for my kitty! Everything is going wrong all at once and I'm really worried. I'm definitely going to the vet ASAP but I need to know what to do before. (flea drops, flea bath, ect) I've only put off the vet because of $$ but now seems like I've made things worse. I feel so bad!

First of all, my cat has fleas. He's been digging and scratching and licking himself so much he has sores, bleeding and even bald spots. We've sprayed our carpet and gave him a flea collar but no luck. He refuses to touch the carpet so he's constantly on the counters, dresser top, and top of the TV. As I was cleaning the dead fleas, hair, and white & black flecks off the dresser I also spotted a tiny white worm! So he probably has worms too. Also, he's not making it to the litterbox so he's urinated and pooped on our carpets a couple of times.
Not to mention he has this balding, fat, pouchy thing on his lower belly that could be a hernia. He's had that for a while, before the previous problems, but someone told me not to worry about that.
But now, I am definitely worried! Could all of these problems be linked??

Vet, vet, vet is all I can recommend. Kitty sounds like he is in dire straits so it is just vet time. There isn't much else you can do!

He is suffering and you need to get him to a vet asap, work out a payment plan or something with them

A trip to the vet is in order.

Also FYI flea collars are pieces of crap that don't really work. You need to get some Frontline, Advantage, or Revolution from your vet. If the infestation is really bad then also get some capstar to give a few days in a row in addition to one of the ones I listed.

If you can get your kitty out of the house for a few hours you might try setting off a "flea bomb" to kill the ones in the house, but that will only be effective if you get proper flea meds for him at the vet.

As for the possible hernia, it's a pretty simple proceedure generally, but definitely something that needs to be addressed.

Also, since your kitty has fleas he most likely has tapeworms and thus you'll need something like Drontal, Droncit, or Profender from your vet to kill them.

yeah, I know I need to take my baby to the vet. It just makes me feel better to talk about it and hear what other people think. Vet is closed today. I am calling first thing tomorrow and making the first appt available. Thanks to everyone who replied.

So what was the outcome??

Turns out the "hernia" was just fat!! haha, he just has a big, fat, saggy belly! gross.
and the vet says he just has alergies and to buy flea drops. The fleas and sores will then go away. and vet said nothing about worms.
So I was just worring for nothing! The flea drops arrived yesterday and seems to be doing better.
Thanks for asking!
