Before I show ya'll our newest addition to our family let me give ya'll a bit of a back story.
Now, ya'll know I'm crazy about cats. I LOVE them, hence I have a house full of them. But, I also love pretty much all animals (just cats are my favorite!). Well, I've wanted a puppy for a long time (honestly, I'd rather have an adult, fully trained dog since I don't look forward to puppy training, but I figure it'd be easier for the cats and puppy if we got a puppy and s/he could grow up with the cats), but we've just never taken the plunge and got a puppy. Since working as a vet tech I see tons of dogs and puppies daily, which only fuels my puppy fever. A couple of months ago we just kind of ended up with a rescue puppy. She was probably 5-6 months old, border collie mix, if ya'll remember me mentioning.

She was only with us for about 3 hours before we found her a home with a friend of Kate's. I cried when I dropped her off, I got attached quickly. haha But, I figured it just wasn't the best time for us to have a dog, etc. etc.
After that David and I talked a lot and decided once Kate moves out we'll finally get a puppy. And we both want a Great Dane. It's my favorite breed, a gentle giant, and any I've met have been great with cats, etc.
Well, our plans for a puppy in the next year or two have sped up. By chance we came upon a lady looking for homes for some puppies. Their mom was a Great Dane and dad an Australian Shepherd and the puppies all look more like Great Danes. The owner of the parents is an 80 year old man that really can't take care of them anymore, it's just too much for him, so the lady that helps him with his land once a week took the puppies to find homes for them. And here enters us. It's not the time frame we wanted, but it felt so right and the one puppy that was left is so docile, it's perfect. She does play of course and is a puppy, but the few minutes she got to meet our cats last night she just laid down and showed them she'd be submissive to them. Which, really, is the only way we could home for a puppy to ever fit in here. The kitties aren't sure what to think and we're going to take this really slow to allow them time to adjust. But hopefully in time they'll accept her!
Her name, it appears, is going to be Scarlet. That's not what "I'D" call her, but when we were driving home with her David said she looked like a Scarlet, then when Nate, from work, saw her he also said she looked like a Scarlet (without knowing that David said the same thing). So, maybe she does look like a Scarlet..Anyway, here she is. She turned 8 weeks old on Monday and went to work with me. She weighed in at 16.6 pounds and got her first puppy vaccine, dewormed, and first month dosage of flea and tick preventative. Everyone at work loved her. She's so darn cute and sweet! She'll probably be coming to work with me quite often!
Without further ado, here's Scarlet:
