Title: Our regular dinner guest

Rita - September 6, 2008 01:34 PM (GMT)
For the past couple of weeks, we have seen this cat regularly in our backyard. It is constantly chasing at the birds and rabbits in our garden. One day there was a rabbit in the middle of the road that had been run over... this cat picked up the carcass and ran away with it  It was a big bunny too!!
He has a collar on, but he is always outside :bawling: I've seen him/her out on the street as early as 5:30 in the morning  and I've heard/seen him in battles/stand-offs, howling at another cat in the middle of the night.
Anyway, I started feeding it whenever I see him in our garden ;) He comes around regularly now around the same time of day and just saunters through the garden, looks at us, then goes and lays down somewhere until we put food in his dish :)
I've named him (or her.. not sure) Tuxie and I talk to him everytime I feed him. He let me get fairly close the other day so I managed to get some pictures. He used to run away as soon as we went outside, but I guess he's getting used to us :)
Without further ado, I would like you all to meet Tuxie :luv2:

Merri looks like Lucky does when he's sitting at the back door watching absolutely nothing. Merri and Tuxie are real cuties!

Well Tuxie finally came right up to me the other day while I was putting food in the dish :jump: He was being a real sucky boy too, with tail twitches while I was talking to him. He let me pet him and I was able to get a look at the tag he had on his collar  It was a rabies tag issued by one of our local vet offices so we gave them a call with the license number. They confirmed that he was all up to date on his shots and they offered to call the owners. Within half an hour the owner called us. They live about 6 or 7 blocks away and she was surprised to hear where we live ... she didn't realize he wandered so far away from home.

Apparently Tuxie's name is really Bobby  The current owner kind of inherited Bobby from a previous neighbour of hers. She said Bobby has been a 'free spirit' since he was a kitten ... his previous owner always put him outside so his current owner fed him regularly so he kind of adopted her as his new owner ;)
The woman said she's tried keeping Bobby in, but he gets really restless and vocal after a day or so of being inside so she lets him out :(

We didn't see Bobby yesterday, but I'm sure he'll be around again ;)
Now that I know he has an owner, should I continue to feed him? I know he is out there for a day or two at a time so I want to make sure he doesn't go hungry, but at the same time I don't want 'take him away' from his owners. Any thoughts/input?

I think I prefer calling him Tuxie too
