Title: Litter Pan Liners
Melanie - October 8, 2008 01:48 PM (GMT)
We recently got a new litter box and it came with free liners. I used them but I just find they end up being messier as the cats just pick at the plastic and tear it up so I just end up cleaning out the box the same way as always. I suppose its slightly easier to clean out since there isn't as much caked on litter on the box itself, but its certainly no easier to dump!

Litter pan liners are definitely frustrating with clawed cats. My parents had a couple of declawed cats and the liner worked very well for them. I don't use them for the same reason as you, they tear it up with their front claws when digging and burying.

That's the same reason I haven't purchased them - they seem like a good idea but not the way my cats claw when they're done going.

I take back every bad thing I ever said about liners! They are great! Yes, the cats pick at them, that part is annoying, but the clean up is SOOO much easier!

Mel, after you posted this I kept thinking about it and decided to try out liners. The best deal I found was the
ExquisiCat® Jumbo Drawstring Cat Pan Liners from Petsmart.
All of our cats are not declawed and they still do put a few holes in the bags, but they make litter box cleaning SO much easier. Now I pull both bags out of the boxes, put them in the garbage, and then rinse the boxes with Lysol.
I definitely will be using them from now on. Thanks for putting the idea in my head, I never would have tried them if you didn't mention them.

OMG I hate liners! But I think it was because the rubber band that came with them wouldn't fit out pan (and it's not a covered one). Every time the kitties used it, they'd claw the plastic OVER the litter so they couldn't use it, unless they went ON the plastic. It was so freakin' annoying.

They sell rubber bands for them? That's a good idea!
We're having the issue with them doing that, I've had to adjust both of the pans already. And Tink peed on the bag. It's not a huuuuge hassle, but it is annoying - I didn't even think of a band.

I didn't know there was bands either! Never seen them.
I stopped using them for a bit after Lola made a complete disaster of one of the liners, but I am going to start using them again next time Ichange the box. Its SO much easier!

My cats tear the bits out of them. Jake likes to "play" in the box for quite awhile after he is finished is business.
