Title: Is it safe to use Neosporin on a cat?

Star has a wound on his shoulder that was/is bleeding. Would it be okay to put a bit of Neosporin on it to prevent an infection? Where the wound is, I wouldn't have to worry about him licking it off. However, I am worried that he might try to scratch or rub the Neosporin off. I also noticed that he has a bit of a smaller wound just under his chin. Would it be okay to put some Neosporin there as well?

Thanks!

My vet told me a bit of Neosporin would be ok, be sure its not the pain relieving version of Neosporin. Its not ok for the cat to lick/eat though, the other issue is infection, with that many wounds perhaps some antibiotics are in order. I would call your vet

The clinic I work at does suggest neosporin use on small cuts. Sparingly! And I make sure he can't lick it, as ElfinErv said. You may need to use an e-collar, too. Basic soap and water is a good start to clean it out. If it's deep enough, a vet will need to look at it. Infection is the really the bad guy, not the cut itself.

I recommend small doses of Neosporin, like Liz said - temporarily while waiting for a vet appointment. Infections can run quickly through cats.
