Title: The Dog-Duo

TxnKats - February 26, 2009 05:34 AM (GMT)
Scarlet REALLY needed another dog to play with. She's huge (90 or so pounds), so can't really play with the cats, though she loves them. So, over the past few months she's become destructive because she's bored. So much so we seriously thought about rehoming her to a home with another dog for her to be companions with. Thankfully we opted to keep her (we love the big goofy lug). The clinic I work for works with a lot of rescue groups doing all their vetting (altering, vaccinations, etc.). Well, about a month ago one particular group brought in two dogs for testing, vaccinations, altering. One a yellow lab, the other a flat-coat retriever. They were calling the retriever "Buford". That instantly pulled at my heart strings since my first dog I had as a child that my parents got when I was 1 or 2 was named Buford and we had a special bond. Once I met the Buford (the rescue) I fell in love with him. Not only is he handsome, but he's also gentle, loving, well behaved, and trained (knows sit, stay, come, out, down, etc. etc.). You don't get lucky enough to find such a great dog just wondering the streets often. I really wanted to adopt him, but didn't want to make any rash decisions, especially since we weren't sure we'd keep Scarlet. Plus, I figured that him being such a great dog he'd find a home ASAP. Well, fast forward to this past Thursday. One of the rescue group's foster ladies came in to buy revolution and she mentioned she was fostering Buford. I had no idea where he went after he left our clinic. I was shocked he was still available. I told her how much I had loved him when I met him and that I still thought about him. She told me I should apply to adopt him. That evening she e-mailed me pictures of him, so I talked it over with David and he agreed we could adopt him. So, I sent in my application. It was approved on Monday morning, so his foster brought Buford to me at work on Monday afternoon. And I brought him home Monday evening. BEST thing ever! Scarlet was SO happy when she met him. She did get too excited jumping on him so he had to put her in her place, but after that initial telling her who's boss they've been best of friends. And Scarlet's behavior is already SO much better. She just needed someone her own size to play with. It's hard to tell in the pictures but she is taller than he is. He's 86 pounds, I figure she's around 90 or so. Buford's estimated age is 2 years old, Scarlet is 9.5 months old.

They both love David and I but Buford is my boy and Scarlet's a daddy's girl.
