Title: I don't know what to do!!
MakeShift Heart - April 6, 2009 06:16 PM (GMT)
When we first got belle I had noticed that there's something wrong with her left hind leg, and had told my mom this COUNTLESS times. Well now I'm pretty certain it's gotten worse!! She will be fine and running then next thing i know she'll stop and raise the leg limping!! I talked to someone about this and she said she thinks it's a luxating patella, well now after this incident I'm pretty sure it is!!
Just now Belle was fine running around on the couch and jumping at me playing. Next thing I know instant SCREAMING fit!! She was raising her leg and it was shaking as if it were throbbing and she was crying!! It scared me to death I didn't know what to do!!
I can't take her into the vet myself I don't have a driver's license and I keep telling my mom there's something wrong but she doesn't believe me and is also saying she doesn't have time to take her in!! I'm so furious because I feel so helpless here!!! I do NOT want to have to get rid of Belle because I've grown so attached to her!! But I truly feel lost here this is so heart aching I'm in tears typing this!!

Sending hugs and prayers. Sounds serious, keep trying to convince mom. She could be very hurt.

Call your local shelter and see what help you can get from them. They often have volunteers - maybe they can give you a ride? She needs to see a vet. :(

I'd try and find a ride to a vet. We have a client who even takes a taxi to our clinic. But an injury left untreated can result in a more costly vet bill, or even amputation. You can check around and see if any clinics have low income specials, too, if your mom is unwilling to pay, or if the bill is too hefty for you. My clinic offers some assistance to those who qualify, and the emergency clinic offers something called Care Credit.

You must know someone who could give you a ride to the vet, keep in mind that some conditions left untreated become even more costly and perhaps deadly. Time is NOT on your side

Only thing I can tell you is that dad did notice she limps so now I got his attention. Mom is on vacation to myrtle beach right now so hopefully she'll take Belle in once she returns this weekend. I'm going to put my foot down and try my hardest to make her understand Belle needs a vet now!

Has Belle been to the vet?

Nope. Mom's using the excuse she wants to wait until we get her spayed.

If she's crying, you should be finding someone to help get you there. Have you called your local vet or shelter?

No because as unfortunate as it is, it's not my say and I would get in some seriously huge trouble for stepping in. I do keep pressuring my mom for that is all I'm capable of doing. I even told her that if the time to take her in is the issue that if she would just make the appointment I will get a ride and run her in myself. So now the flippin excuse is "Finding time to call." :pullhair: This is seriously making me feel like a bad pet owner!!
On a better note, she hasn't cried after that one screaming fit. And she hasn't hopped as much as she was before. Still doesn't mean there's no problem but at least it doesn't appear to be as severe as I believed it to be.

She's part of your family, so you DO have a say. This is abuse and neglect. She must see a vet and who cares what your mom says. She is causing poor Belle serious harm. If there's an injury it can become infected and ultimately claim her life. She needs a vet or to go to the shelter immediately.

I agree with Liz 100%. You posted at the beginning of this month about the dire pain this animal is in, but yet here it is a month later and nothing has been done. So you've either lied about it, or you are neglecting a hurt animal.
How old are you, Trista? You should be able to make a phone call for yourself, why is everything based around your mother and what she'll do for you?
I hope for the sake of this animal that you are truly taking her to the vet.

We're back from the vet. She has a luxating patella that isn't as severe as it could have been. The vet said it could in time cause arthritis but now we're going to get x-rays done as soon as we can, then move on to surgery.
Everything bases around my mom because the dog is in her name and not mine. The entire process goes off of her expense and not mine. So therefore she knows her financial stability more than I do.
And since people seem to think I would even lie about this I'm hurt by that so I'm curious on whether or not people here are my friends or not. I understand being upset over an animal, but I can't help my situation of having no vehicle of my own and no job at this moment to where I can pay for expenses on my own. Yes I am getting a job very soon, but last month I had little to nothing.
For a little proof I scanned this hope this eases your worried minds.
