Title: My mailman brought me....
Crystal - April 21, 2009 08:51 PM (GMT)
A kitten!!!
It was toward the end of the day today and he ran in and told me he found a little kitten. I went out with him and it was TINY! He/she (haven't been able to get a good look yet) looks to only be a few weeks old. My mailman looked around a bit but he was alone....no mom cat nor other kittens.
My sister helped me get him home and we just gave him a bath - he was a stinky little thing. He's now sleeping on my chest, curled in a ball. He was there at the store with me for the last two hours we were open and he fell asleep inside my sweatshirt, curled up into my neck. :luv2:
I took a few pictures but can't post them until tomorrow, my card reader is down there. I'll talk to Erik when he gets home to see what we're going to do. At the very least I'll get him set and find him a home when the time is right.
I have a vet appointment set up for 4:15 tomorrow afternoon.
'Tis the season for kittens!!

Aww!!! I hope his health checks out!! I can't wait for photos!
Crystal - April 22, 2009 12:06 PM (GMT)
I'm SO tired today - the little rat kept us up ALL night. That thing has got a set of lungs on it!
I'm at a loss - I put him in the bathroom and provided it with food, a nice place to sleep, and a place to go to the bathroom, and he just wailed all night. I went in with him and sat with him and he wailed. I have absolutely no idea what to do, but I do know that I do NOT have the time for this. If it was a few months ago, when the store was closed and I was home all the time, I'd have no problem taking this on. But at this point I barely have time to take care of the cats we DO have, and they require nothing at this point.
My sister will be taking him to the APL this morning when they open. The one by us is really nice - they have an awesome vet (I spoke with her back when I took in Willy) that is very helpful and knowledgeable, and they have staff and volunteers that can give him the care and attention he needs.
I feel so bad, I feel like a horrible failure...but I know that he needs a lot more than I have the time to give him right now and he deserves the best he can get.
I'm really sad...but he is so freaking adorable and I know he'll get nabbed up in a second. The APL has wonderful little cubbies for the kitties to live in while they're waiting for homes and that makes me happy. I know he's going to get a wonderful home, he's amazingly lovable and playful...I'm just really sad that home won't be with me. :(
I'll post pictures in a bit - I'm going out to get him right now (he's been in the carrier in my truck).

You are not a failure Crystal. You cannot save every single animal in the world. You've done what you can for this wee one and you know well enough that you cannot provide everything he needs and are doing the BEST thing for him by taking him to someone that can.
Crystal - April 22, 2009 01:14 PM (GMT)
Thanks Mel.
I've looked at the problems and come up with solutions. I'm taking him at 10:00 to get tested...if he comes back negative, we're giving him one more day. If there's still issues and I don't think it'll work, he's going to the APL tomorrow. If he's positive for anything, he's gotta go to the APL, obviously.
I'll update after the vet appointment.

:luv2: :luv2: :luv2: OMG he's so cute... I hope everything will be alwright with him and that you can keep him... maybe he needed attention and he was missing his mommy... he would have a lot of brothers and sisters at your home to give him a lot of love... maybe he just needs to ajust to a new home and family... I'm sure you will do what's best for him, whatever your decision is... Good luck with him :crossed:
Crystal - April 22, 2009 02:48 PM (GMT)
Well, SHE tested negative! :jump:
She's at home right now in the bathroom until I get home - she did go straight to the box, which is awesome.
Now let's just hope she behaves tonight...
TKuz4813 - April 22, 2009 02:50 PM (GMT)

Crystal - April 22, 2009 04:38 PM (GMT)
Hahahaha, mine brings kittens AND makes house visits! (He's super cool and brought a package for Erik that he knew he was waiting for up to our house when I wasn't here at the store - he lives 3 streets away from us)
Kenny - April 22, 2009 07:18 PM (GMT)
I am leaving now and I should be there around 11 pm. WAIT UP!!
:luv2:
Elizabeth - April 22, 2009 07:42 PM (GMT)
:rotfl: You guys!!
She is just precious. So happy she tested negative, too!! I bet she'll settle down. She's a young lass and probably SO happy to be in a warm place!!
Rita - April 22, 2009 07:56 PM (GMT)
She is gorgeous!!!! :luv2: :luv2:
I hope she's on her best behavious tonight because there is no way she could ever find a better, loving home ;)
MakeShift Heart - April 22, 2009 08:56 PM (GMT)
Reminds me of when I rescued Georgia (the 5 week old calico dumped on my porch).
Unfortunately I couldn't keep her due to not having the time/proper knowledge to care for her.
This little one is ADORABLE have you named her yet? :luv2:
Melanie - April 23, 2009 03:27 AM (GMT)
I kinda knew you would keep her! I was just being supportive in case you couldn't! ;)
estelle58 - April 23, 2009 02:12 PM (GMT)
 So... how did it go last night?
Crystal - April 23, 2009 05:25 PM (GMT)
Thank you everyone! She's one of the most adorable kittens I've ever seen.
She had a wonderful night last night! I went home after work and gave her another bath, and then she took a nap in the middle of the floor. When Erik got home she was a bit yappy, but then she settled down. She fell asleep on Erik's chest while we were watching TV in bed and then she slept the night with us - she was so cute, she kept burrowing down and sleeping against our legs under the blankets. This morning she woke me up by wailing in my face, and then proceeding to walk all over my head purring. :luv2: This morning when I was getting ready for work, she was jumping around in the kitchen, playing with nothing and having a blast.
With that being said...I'm taking her to the APL so they can get her a forever home. :( It's my decision completely, Erik put in his opinion but let me decide, he told me he'd go with whatever I wanted. If she had come into our lives a few months ago when I was working from home in the off-season, I'd definitely be all for it...but she's a kitten that with play with the other cats but she's very attached to people. She follows me around when I walk around the house and she wails to be held, and then purrs like crazy and burrows into my neck when I pick her up. I got home and she wanted to be held so bad she literally climbed up my jeans and made me hold her. She was in heaven sleeping with us last night, and she absolutely loves to play with us. I work at the store 9 hours a day, then I have errands or working out after work...and by the time I get settled at home it's after 6:00. On the weekends we're constantly on the go to get stuff done, and with the nice weather coming I'll be working in my garden and going for long bikerides/walks/rollerblades. I just don't think we have the time to give her all the attention she needs.
**LATER**
Sorry, I was writing this earlier and had to come back to it, we've been really busy. Right now it doesn't look like I'll have time to take her in, we'll see. So she may be with us another night. I was crying earlier writing that and I'm worried if we keep her too long we won't take her at all!
Crystal - April 23, 2009 05:41 PM (GMT)
Oh no...I just called the APL and they will only take them at 9 weeks...our baby is about 4-5 weeks old. :wha:
I'll talk to Erik later.
Elizabeth - April 23, 2009 07:01 PM (GMT)
Well, whatever you decide I'm sure she'll have a great home!! Too bad they can't take her now. She can be spayed before 9 weeks, actually... But I guess that's their policy? But she's a stray, so they should take her anyway.
Crystal - April 23, 2009 07:04 PM (GMT)
Yeah, no kidding, I'm stumped too.
Crystal - April 24, 2009 12:01 AM (GMT)
lol, we were eating dinner and Erik was talking about names. Who knows! Yesterday he was pissed at me for not taking her to the APL right away, now he's wavering on it.

Yeah, we were watching her play yesterday and even though we're not around as much as we'd like right now, she's loving the cats! She bounces around, running after them, and she jumped up on the windowsill with them to watch the birds. I was worried we'd be neglecting her, but I think they'll make up for the time we're not there.
Our mailman says we should name her Lucky. :luv2:
Plus, we came home to only 2 poopie-oopsies yesterday. The day before when I had her closed in the bathroom (wanted her to eat and poop in there until I could watch her), she poo'ed and peed on herself multiple times and then danced in it...ugh, what a mess! No issues when she's out during the day, though.

Lucky is a great name. ;) :lmao:
She is so cute.
my3kitties - April 25, 2009 02:21 AM (GMT)
Soooooo...does this mean you're keeping her??
Crystal - April 25, 2009 04:16 PM (GMT)
Yeah, we're sold. :rotfl:
She's still nameless, though - we like the name Lucky but both of us feel it's better suited for a boy. We toyed with dropping the K and naming her Lucy, but we're still not sure. She looks like a little bobcat and has the cutest little white boots, so we're playing around with names that incorporate those things.
She just got the kitten collar put on her (a tiny collar I found at a pet store and I attached a tiny bell I found - it started with Gizmo and Peanut wore it, too) so I can find her, and she's running around like crazy, playing with everyone. She's tried to wrestle Peanut a few times this morning, it's too funny - she loves to play and thinks she can take on the world.
my3kitties - April 25, 2009 10:54 PM (GMT)
I knew it!! She's so lucky to have you and Erik. How about naming her Bobbi?
Crystal - April 26, 2009 12:09 AM (GMT)
That's actually one name we came up with! :rotfl:

estelle58 - April 30, 2009 02:08 PM (GMT)
How is the little baby doing lately? Does she have a name yet? :kittyluv:
Crystal - April 30, 2009 07:43 PM (GMT)
She's really good - I have pictures I've been meaning to upload and post, but I haven't had a chance yet. I'm hoping I'll have some time this weekend.
Still no name!! Everything I like Erik doesn't, and vice versa.
Allie - April 30, 2009 08:06 PM (GMT)
Glad she is good. Yes we need more pix. ;)
Crystal - May 6, 2009 04:18 PM (GMT)
We named her....Callie! Callie the Calico, it fits her cutesy girly side (she's a total princess) while also covering her crazy personality.
I have a bunch of pictures to share...hopefully I'll have time to upload them tomorrow.
