Title: How do you read a sick cats actions?

As most of you know Milo my oldest kitty was recently diagnosed with kidney failure/chronic renal failure. He has to take 3 meds everyday, plus when he needs it...I have to give him subcutaneous fluids, by needle under the skin in the scruff of the neck. He should be eating low protein food...$26 a bag, but no one is interested in that food are the stupid ants. :neener:
All of this is kinda overwhelming at times. The past 2 days especially. Milo has been up my ass and following me like a bad fart.
First of all, I have a very unusually close bond with Milo. :kittyluv:
I have had 3 cats before Milo since I was 7 years old...never had this connection with any pet ever. Probably b/c we lived alone for 2 years before Tyrone became a permanent member of our family.
Anyhow, lately Milo has been just staring at me, not sleeping in the bedroom like he has been, very almost too affectionate with me & Ty. He looks fine, great in fact. But I still feel uneasy about him. I feel like he is trying to tell me something, but what? He seems hungry all the time, he threw up the other night (2 nights ago). He bums for food which he NEVER did except with frozen treats/ice/yogurt & deli ham. I dunno what's up...is time for the fluids or am I just being paranoid. His nose is wet, his breath isn't overly smelling, no dander or eye crap....so please tell me I am just being an overly anxious kitty Mom.
My issue is I over analyze EVERYTHING to the point where I drive myself nuts. Probably Ty too. He says Milo feels heavier, so that means he is gaining weight...so he is doing fine. Right?
So maybe I am just feeling anxious waiting for the other shoe to drop...they say with kidney failure you have good & bad days/weeks. So maybe this is part of the situation, learning to read your CRF cat. :wha:

I think he'll be fine! :)
I've always had a very close bond with Motley too - and after she had the liver failure a couple of years ago she also got almost over-affectionate with me. I think it was her way of showing me that she appreciated everything I was doing for her!
She's completely recovered now and is more "in my face" than she ever was before, and also more grumpy with anyone who isn't me - apart from vets, she loves vets now too!
Go with your instinct - if Milo seems happy and healthy then he probably is, and it's great that he's putting on weight! You can always give the vet a ring if you're not sure or need your mind putting at rest.

Do you think maybe you should give him the fluids for a few weeks and see if his actions change at all? And then if there's a change in treatment but no change in behavior, you'll know you're just crazy. Or if you do see an improvement, you'll know that's probably why? :wha:
ETA: Minnie had an eye infection a few years back and we had never bonded...but when she was sick we did, and now she acts differently towards me. Maybe he just sees you as his mommy helping him, and he's thankful and wants to be around you.
Nala has completely changed lately, too - Erik and I have both noticed it, she's more affectionate. She now sits on our laps and always sleeps in our bed. But there's been no change to anything, really.

And I agree with everything Sarah said, too.

Thanks guys...I guess I needed to hear it from more cat people. He will be starting the fluids once or twice a week later today. I really don't know why I have been putting it off?

I love it...the rest of the sites aren't as good. I also like the fact that they have an article on the the Emotional Roller coaster....it's so true. :(
