CRF Stages
Milo values are consistent with Stage 3. :bawling:

:comfort: Aw, Allie. Are those the numbers you've gotten from the vet's? Is s/he expressing any concern?

Hang in there hun. You're doing a phenomenal job with Milo.

I have to talk to them soon. As I just noticed the site I found and compared the numbers from his last blood test in March. The vet did tell me he could have 6 mos to a year.
Milo has just been sick for the past few days. Puked twice and his hind legs aren't working the same. He is sleeping much more. He isn ot himself...and I know there are lots of ups and downs with CRF. This is killing me. :bawling:

Crystal - May 18, 2009 04:02 PM (GMT)
I would talk to your vet. You can look up all you want but you're not 100% sure who wrote the site (she's a woman who has done research, she's not a vet - it says that on the contact page) and it'll be a case by case basis for all cats.

That site is very interesting, though, I'll need to look up Nala's last test and see where her numbers compare. I just go on what the vet tells me honestly - she doesn't act sick, so I don't treat her like she's sick.

 Hang in there.

Crystal - May 18, 2009 04:20 PM (GMT)
What type of treatment(s) do you have him on right now?

Crystal - May 18, 2009 05:31 PM (GMT)
Hmm, now I'm confused....Nala's BUN is 55 and Creatine is 4.1, which puts her at a Stage 1 and Stage 3.

Oh well, if my vet says it's good, then it's good. :lmao: I'm taking a much more relaxed approach than you are. Maybe it's just because I've been dealing with it longer and only seen improvements.

Yeah I will...true she isn't a vet. BUT his numbers were pretty high, plus he was dehydrated which affect the numbers. I know each cat is different...I have the same feeling I had about my aunt when she was first diagnosed with lung cancer and she died 8 months later, mind you the past 4 were painful for her. I don't want Milo to have pain like that. :comfort:
This is very hard for me to deal with right now. They what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Crystal - May 19, 2009 05:58 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I can only imagine. We're lucky and Nala isn't bad off, but if she had Milo's symptoms I know I'd be in the same state you are. :comfort:

I've said it before and I'll say it again - you are going above and beyond what some pet owners would do for their cats, and for that I know you will make the right choices when they need to be made. But until then, you're getting extremely educated on this, which is a great thing - you'll be able to talk with your vet more on his/her level and understand more.

 We're here for you.

They do say alot on different sites...treat the cat not the numbers. BUT in our case the number are high...and I am sure they aren't getting much better. Milo is ok for a few days then seems ycuky the next.
Gosh I wish he would have displayed symptoms earlier. :(

I don't know how to take a relaxed approach with anything. :duh: ANd I am on drugs for anxiety...could you imagine what I'd be like with out them. :coocoo: :lmao:

Allie - May 20, 2009 04:12 PM (GMT)
So I talked to the vet this am. He said that Milo's numbers are consistent with end stage CRF. I need to get some antacid and up his dosage of the toxin reducer. Fluids should be twice a week just to help him flush the toxins better.
So basically I am keeping him comfortable until his kidneys can't take it anymore. I am not letting him suffer if he is in pain. Soon as he isn't acting himself for a long period of time or so or his symptoms get worse...I have to put him down. It's not fair, but I'd rather have him PTS then die here in this dirty building.
I have noticed the other cats are behaving differently. Georgie is sleeping with me more, Jake has been hanging out with Milo a lot...and Lucky is even more weird. They all smell Milo like he has the cooties. :giggle: Probably the meds in his system.
I am prepared for the inevitable with him.
This really sucks!! :bawling:

We're here for you.

 Thanks guys...of course Milo is acting normal today. :pullhair: This is so hard on the nerves!

Crystal - May 21, 2009 04:44 PM (GMT)
That's a good sign!

How's Milo today?

Still good today, but noticed last night his breath is really bad. He never has bad breath.

Crystal - May 22, 2009 05:57 PM (GMT)
Sending lots of :kittyluv:

Allie - May 24, 2009 06:56 PM (GMT)
Other than the stinky breath, Milo is still ok for now anyways. He's been wanting can peaches when I eat them...not just the juice but the actual peaches. :rotfl: Every time I have something cold and fruity he wants it. :coocoo: He been after slushies when I get them too...he literally stuck his face in my glass. :lmao:

Allie - June 8, 2009 08:18 PM (GMT)
Milo cannot handle the heat at all. Every day that is been warmer than usual, he pukes. Has no energy and is weak in the knees. My poor boy is looking old. :(
Yesterday he puked all over the back of our sofa. :pullhair: I have to give him fluids more than normal in the hot weather I guess.

Allie - June 10, 2009 03:43 PM (GMT)
He puked 3 once a day the past few days. :( :pullhair:
He is still acting like himself, and the weakness is gone. I guess the weak knees is a normal thing for CRF. The muscles get weaker due to lack of potassium in the body.
He has been jumping on the counters, tables etc...a lot lately. Just b/c he is sick doesn't mean he can get away with everything :nono:
One week he is doing fine the next he stresses me out. I feel like I am waiting for the other shoe to drop. If he is getting worse, than I hope it happens fast. I love Milo more than any cat I have ever had...but I am getting annoyed with the puking and the bossiness/neediness. I want this over with so we can all deal with losing Milo....at the same time I want him around for as long as possible.
At least I have now excepted that he isn't going to be around as long as some of my cats from my past. That not all cats live 18 yrs like Rocky did.
Anyhow, needed to vent a smidge...this is very frustrating.

Crystal - June 10, 2009 06:57 PM (GMT)
I know how you feel - just happen already or go away. :comfort:

I'm glad to hear he's doing well, though - it would suck if he was just horrible all the time.

 We're always here to listen.

He didn't puke yesterday. He is getting more fluids tonight...he is up to twice weekly now.

Having another good day with him.

So Milo isn't doing that great...he puked again this am. I got some Pepcid AC for his tummy issues. He wasn't eating yesterday or today. He seems kind of spacey. He will sit and stare at nothing for quite awhile.
I KNOW the end is near. Unfortunately, he is slowly not being normal. I wish I could say different but I can't.
We gave him fluids last night, in case the heat in our apartment got to him today. Which may be apart of the reason he isn't eating. I gave him 1/2 of a tablet as the vet told me to. So maybe he will eat later.
Anyway he and I are doing much better now than this am. I was a mess, bawling my eyes out for 20 minutes and all.
Either way I am prepared for this to be all over with for both of us. I cannot handle seeing my precious boy be so sick. He will tell me when he is ready. The hardest part will be the day I take him to be put down. I know he will want me there til the end, but I am not sure I would feel seeing the light go from his eyes. :bawling:
I use to volunteer at our local SPCA and saw 13 cats put down in one day. I WAS a MESS over that. Even tho seeing them get injected and PTS was peaceful...I am not sure how I would feel seeing Momo in that position.

Ya know it's funny when getting a pet you never think of this stuff until you need to. I guess if we did we'd never have a pet.

Milo hasn't come out of the bedroom in about 2 days now. I put his water, food and one of the litter boxes in there for him. He is so sleepy. He is eating and drinking but he smells like ammonia. :bawling:
Next week I have decided to put him down unless he show some improvements by then. It so hard on EVERYONE here including the other cats. He is uncomfortable I can tell. The other cats have been acting strange too. Lucky is depressed. :(
I wish he would just perken up, but my gut tells me it's not gonna happen.

Last night all 3 cats would look in the cart he is has been sleeping in, like they were checking on him too. He smells bad so they can smell he is dying. I hate this but it is something I have gotta do for Milo and me. I am so stressed out all the time.

I'm so sorry, Allie.

I think you're doing the right thing. He just doesn't look healthy in those pictures...ugh, and how he's acting, I would feel the same way about it. I'm glad that you're starting to make peace with what's happening...you're stronger than I am.

I'm so sorry you have to make this decision...but I think you're doing the right thing for him in the long run if he keeps up like this. It's cruel to make him suffer like that any longer than is necessary.

I hope he's able to stay comfortable this next week. Poor guy. :(

We're here if you need to talk, definitely keep us updated. Even on my busiest days I stop in here at least once to check on updates about him.
