Title: Nikki's Diagnosis
Sarah_Pussycat - July 1, 2009 02:50 PM (GMT)
The vet's been in touch today and all Nikki's results are back- we have a special needs kitty!
She has Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (had to copy and paste that!).
The outlook is great, and it's very treatable with medication - she's acting her old self now with the steroids. Me and Andy have been practicing giving her the pills - one of us wraps her up in a towel and opens her mouth, and the other aims the pill at the back of her throat! :giggle:
She has to go back to the vet on Friday for a couple more tests and to sort out the dosage of her medicine.

Awesome, I'm glad you know what's up!
Pilling gets easier and easier...she'll get used to it, you guys will get used to it.

Just got a great photo of a mummified Nikki, post-pill! I'll post as soon as my PC is set up and I can get photos off the camera!

 Well at least it's not terminal. :jump:

We went to the vet with Nikki on Friday - her red blood cell count is now back up to 28! :jump: (This is after going all the way down to 8....) She's back to normal!
The vet is happy with how she's doing on the dose of steroids she's on at the moment, so no need to change that, it's just going to be a long term thing.
She is looking and acting GREAT - the vet was impressed with her recovery too!
:)

We've caught Nala a few times going to town licking the brick and mortar in the basement. We have a door that closes it off to the rest of the house and we only let Tink down there (she likes to explore) but Nala has been much more interested in going down there lately.
We may be in the same boat as you.
I've got a vet appointment for her next week (the earliest they could get me in) to check on that and her kidney levels - she's feeling boney lately and I want to get her checked.

:comfort:  Best of luck to you and Nala - hope it can be treated.

:comfort: I hate that boney feeling. Hope her numbers are ok. After we move I am taking Milo in to get checked again. I am hoping that they can tell me what's up with him now that it is at the 6 month point.

Yeah, who knows what's going to happen, it's one thing after another with her. Luckily my vet is great so we're just going to see what's up.
