Title: Eight Is (not) Enough!
Description: The kittens are now with me!

Well, today I moved the four kittens home to my house. Mom was originally going to keep two but some things made her feel it was best to have them with me. First off, their gray adult, Riley, has now been dashing and getting out. While Sam's one cat, Pita, is used to being out, we do not want Riley out. But if he dashes... The issue here is with the kittens, especially Pepe, really getting along with Riley and vice versa, there is great concern about the kittens learning to dash to the door. And to see the kittens get out and not make it home would be heartbreaking.

Secondly, and probably the reason we did it now, was that mom's husband's sister decides she wants to come up from Columbus to Akron for a visit. Now the cats still are a bit too young to have full unfettered access to Sam's house. We block them off from the basement. And the cats as you may recall were being kept in the spare bedroom and let out during the day. We could not keep the litterbox in the room when she was there so where to put the box? I suggested keeping the basement blocked off overnight and putting it in the washroom. The problem is that Sam's sis is a very light sleeper. It seems a pin dropping wakes her up and Sam's dogs have done it. So these cats during one of their midnight race and chase sessions is sure to wake her up. So mom and I decided to bring them home to me. We carted up all their toys, dishes, and the cat condo. They even have the same comforter here that they laid upon. It was then that mom made the decision just to leave them here with me. They will be safer here. She was upset to see her two, Pepe and Liverwurst leave. But mom does live next door so she WILL visit the kittens a few times a week. And when Sam's sister is next door, mom will spend the night with me to be with the babies. I was in tears too because I know how much she will miss waking up and seeing the kittens, especially her two. But at least they will not be at risk of getting out. And my basement is far safer than sam's.

Right now, the cats are in the other bedroom here and there is a big piece of plexiglass across the doorway. They cannot get out and my big cats cannot get in. But they will be able to at least see each other. Willie is pissed off because he cannot get to his window seat!! But in a few days or so, I will begin careful interaction with the kittens and adults. In time, Willie will accept them as he did Petey. Of course, it will be interesting to see how things go with Lilly Anne and Petey with regards to the babies. Of course, I did kinda scold Willie for hissing at them. I told him "Now Willie, you be good! Those are the same kittens that I brought home in April that were 1 day old and you just sniffed and walked away from!"

But the good thing is, the kittens are happy here. Within 5 minutes, they were just as goofy as usual! :luv2:

Well, the adults are curious so they are looking at the babies through the plexiglass but when a kitten paws the plexiglass, they back off. Since Petey bears a resemblance to mom's adult, Riley, I wanted to do a careful introduction of him to the babies. Well, Petey ran away when they sniffed him. :D But other than that, things are going ok. This weekend, I will let them wander in the living room.

In about 2 months, mom may end up taking her two, Pepe and Liverwurst. Which is fine with me. She is still in tears not being able to hold her Liverwurst. But tomorrow, she will be coming over to visit them and she will probably spend Saturday night with them as well.

At least all 4 are happy and enjoying themselves.

Well, today the kittens had access to the kitchen and the living room. They were very well behaved. They did not go up the drapes nor did they claw at them. They did not get up on an ancient 1967-era console stereo. Pepe once got onto the counter in the kitchen but he was promptly shooed away and put on the floor.

The kittens also had some contact with Willie and Petey. Abby and Spunky hissed at Willie probably because he is marked somewhat similar to Sam's cat, Pita. Pita does not like any other cat period so she hissed at the kittens who promptly hissed in return. When hissed at, Willie returned the hiss favor and then squawked at them! Pepe may have hissed, but I am not sure. Liverwurst being the most laid back kitten wanted to approach Willie but Willie's low growl just made Liverwurst turn away. I was telling Willie that A, they will not hurt you and B, I still love you as much as before. I told him he is still the Top Boy around the house. I also told him these are the same babies I brought home when they were one day old and that you just sniffed and ignored. :D

Petey was actually somewhat skittish around them! He did not hiss nor growl in the least. But he was backing away from them. However, he just parked himself under a chair and watched them play with my rod and reel toy. So he will probably be the first to come around to them.

Tooties and Lilly Anne did not have any contact because they did not come out of my room! :P I did have the door to my room closed because right now, they would probably get lost in that jungle! But those two have observed the kittens most of the day from behind the plexiglass.

Right now, the "feline vacuums" are snoozing after their evening treat of Iams canned kitten food. :luv2: It was SO CUTE earlier when as I was mowing the lawn, they all came to the window as I went by that side of the house and all were pressing against the screen to see me!!! :kittyluv: I sure do love these babies!!! :luv1: :luv2:
