Title: For those of you with dogs and cats...

Erik and I are looking at getting a dog. We're discussing all the aspects and I'm wondering how you deal with the food situation.

We're looking at putting their food and fountain up on a table in the dining room, and keep the dog's food on the ground.

My cats all eat canned food. When I first got Khan I would baby gate him out of the kitchen when I was feeding the cats. I fed them, then I would feed Khan. His dishes are in the dining room.

Over time Khan has learned that he is not to be in the kitchen when I am feeding them. He waits patiently in the dining room for his food. I no longer put up the baby gate. I don't think I have used for like 2 years now.

I recently got a fountain and I got the extra water thing too. I keep it in the dining room. Khan doesn't drink out of it as far as I have seen. Although I have only seen 1 of the cats drink out of it. I know someone is drinking from it, because the water is gone :giggle:

When I fed dry I kept it on top of the fridge in one of those containers that hold food and it just refills on its own.

Oh yeah and years ago when I just had Zoee and lived with my sister and her dog I kept the food dish on the dryer.

Ooh, that's a good idea - establishing an area or restrictions or something.
