Title: What do you feed your cats?

MaggiesMom - January 2, 2010 03:30 PM (GMT)
I'm on another forum and I got kind of angry that they basically called me stupid in not so many words that I dont feed my cat an all wet diet (she wont eat all wet) and that I feed her purina indoor formula dry instead of the high dollar "kitty health food"

She gets 1/4 of wet a day mixed will kibble (she's spoiled)

She HATES all of those and when she was on the "top of the lines 20 dollars a little bag" food she shed like there was no tomorrow, she had bad dandruff AND she contstantly was puking up hairballs

We put her on purina one and it got better but then we put her on purina indoor and she has no more hairball problem, doesnt shed nearly as much AND her coat is shiney and softer then ever and flake free.

Am I wrong to get mad that the one time I was brave enough to post about my cats food there I got shot down?

I think as long as your cat is doing well on the food, then it's no one's business. There's always a better brand out there but you have to feed the best you can afford and the best your cat does well on.

Personally we feed Taste of the Wild, it's a higher premium brand, but we have to feed that since I have a few with allergies to grains, so had to go with a dry food t hat's grain free.

As a treat we feed Friskies and Fancy Feast wet food.

We feed Science Diet Optimum and mix in some Royal Canin Indoor Beauty & Hair and Skin.

But it doesn't matter as long as they're eating and in good health! My mom has always fed her cats the inexpensive brands and they have done well. One of them will turn 11 this year! :)

Ours are on Iams - it's the one that seems to suit them best out of everything I've tried! Nikki and Blackie like it too, and we buy in bulk so it's cheaper.

Don't let those people get to you, some of those people think they are experts on pet care, they are mostly just self centered and ridiculous.

It's important to find a food your cat likes as starving isn't a good option.
I have 4 cats and we have tried dozens of foods wet and dry. They don't really care for most of them. Now they eat Purina One Adult dry cat food, Iams Premium dry cat food, and several flavors of the canned Fancy Feast. They like canned in the morning and dry food available all the time for them to munch on. This is become routine and comfortable for everyone. For us feeding both canned and dry works

Agreed.

I belong to two other cat boards and I just don't go to them anymore because you can't voice your opinion without someone shooting you down. Everything you do is wrong to them.

We feed Chicken Soup dry and Merrick's wet - over the years we've improved the quality of their food (at first we had them on Friskies, then Iams) and everyone loves it.

Our outdoor cat lives on Purina One and loves it, and he looks perfect (great coat, looks the exact same as our indoor kitties). So do my sister's cats, and they're both in perfect shape - they actually both have wonderful coats and look great.

We feed our Boyz Royal Canin Oral care dry food ... we've had dental problems in the past ... and President's Choice (grocery store "no-name" product) wet which was recommended by a vet!! Our Boyz are healthy and happy and they all have great shiny, soft coats :)

We feed our kitties Purina One too and Friskies/Whiskas wet food 2x a day, just a few table spoons a serving. I have been feeding them this since March/April. There has been less litter box usage, less shedding and their coats are much shinier than before. My kitties don't like the expensive brands that we've tried.
Like everyone said...if your kitties are doing well on it who cares what other say.

Howdee Everyone! Yes, I'm still alive and well. Coco is keeping me on my toes and busy! I'll have to post photos.

I recently changed my gang of 4 from Purina Chat Chow (Indoors Formula) to Purina One - Sensitive tummys/hairball formula. What I have noticed from mixing it with old stuff before committing to it totally was we had less episodes of hair ball throw up or food throw up. What excites me so much is this has no RED DYE!!!!
I'm convinced that was the cause and had trouble finding Purina One sensitive other than at Pet Smart. Kroger has it now ;) Kroger is allot closer to home.

Now that we are RED DYE, FREE I feel so much better :)

My mom has a cat that throws up constantly [she has been looked at, she's fine]. And my mom HATES food with red dye! It stains the carpet.

That's what I used when Milo got sick, Purina One for sensitive tummies. He wouldn't
eat the $26 bag of vet food. Jerk! I have kept the others on Purina One but the chicken & rice formula. The litter box is much less used that is for sure.

Personally I don't think that dry food is very good for our kitties in general. They are carnivores and should be eating raw meat instead. BUT who could afford to do that?
