Title: I need help...FAST!

my4kitties - March 11, 2010 05:49 PM (GMT)
I know this should probably go in the "Feral & Rescue Cats" section, but I want/need this to be seen by as many Top Catters as possible.

As most of you know, I had to put Smokey in foster care because my ex-husband was giving me grief over Smokey being here. And he was convinced that Smokey was going to infect our other cats with FIV/FeLV. Smokey went to his foster mommy's house on February 14 and things were going good...or so I thought. I got a call from the lady who helped me find a foster mommy for Smokey last night. Apparently, things aren't going well for the foster mommy. She lives in a dorm and the walls are paper thin. Smokey has been meowing non-stop and the foster mommy's neighbors have been complaining. She can't keep Smokey in her dorm room anymore, but she's willing to keep him until this weekend.

The problem is that I know for a fact that my ex-husband will not let me bring Smokey back here. And Karen, the lady who helped me find the foster mommy, can't take him. All of her other foster people have multiple cats, so Smokey can't go with any of them, either.

Are there any members that live in Southern California? I need someone who could take my baby for now and possibly until the end of April. I don't want to put him in a shelter, because I know he'll be PTS because of his FIV/FeLV status.

Please, can anyone help??

Could it be the stress of moving that's making him so noisy?
Sparkle was louder than ever when we moved here, the vet thought it was probably to do with the move and gave him some calming tablets called Zylkene which seemed to help.
Could you maybe try something like this (or even Feliway) for Smokey, then your friend could keep him if he calms down (nothing for neighbours to complain about then!)

Karen picks up Smokey at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning. Vickie, the foster mommy, has no complaints about Smokey at all. She said he's a sweet cat and is very friendly. Unfortunately, he just meows too much for the liking of her neighbors. And, I'm guessing, she's not really supposed to have any animals in her apartment. That's the only reason I can think of for her to not be able to foster my baby anymore. Her neighbors know this and may have threatened to tell the apartment manager. This all hearsay, but this is what I'm telling myself so that I don't get angry with Vickie for not trying to solve the meowing problem.

Vickie did mention that it looks like Smokey has a cold, so Smokey will be going to the vet and will boarded there at least until Monday. So, I do have a bit more time to try and figure out what I'm going to do. I'm strongly leaning towards just bringing Smokey back in the house and telling David tough turkeys! And because he has a cold, I'm extremely worried about him now. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I know his immune system is compromised because of the FeLV.

Say a prayer for my Shmokey Shmoo and me. Pray that I'm able to find someone who can take him until the end of April. Thanks.
