Title: How did you name your kitties?
David - December 30, 2006 04:14 PM (GMT)
I named Dixie, Dixie because she looked exactly like a cat who lives next door, and that cat's name is Dina, so I wanted to look for something close to that. :) How did you name your cat(s)?
Craftlady - December 30, 2006 04:47 PM (GMT)
Skinny..... He was so small not now :rotfl:
Cindy....... Since she was the neighborhood stray, our street name is Cynthiana it was appropriate to name her Cindy. :)
Eleanor...... She had that name from a previous owner, we liked it, she liked it, didnt change it when we adopted her. :)
Thumper..... Her tail thumps against you when she is content. Thus name Thumper :)
Emily - December 30, 2006 05:02 PM (GMT)
Beeper...she chose us as her humans when she was a young feral (TNR-ed and everything). Her 'meow' was more like a 'meep' and she sounded like someone's pager going off, hence her name.
Scully...petite, red haired, not afraid to share her opinion. We're big X-Files fans ;)
Prince John (aka PJ)...you know the Prince John from Disney's Robin Hood? The lion who sucked his thumb and generally acted somewhat...needy  That was PJ as a kitten - he looked like a lion cub but had the temperament of a mouse :giggle:
Miko - within moments of being born, still attached to mama, she attempted to scale Scully's side and continued to climb anything and everything she could. Add to that her large round eyes and extreme curiosity, she reminded us of a monkey. Her name is a variation on a Spanish term meaning "little monkey".
Stephanie...at four weeks old she was the only kitten we hadn't named yet. A good friend of mine had recently moved to Colorado, and I was talking with her on the phone. "You should name a kitten after me." I did, and now my friend just adores her little namesake.
SixxyKitty - December 30, 2006 05:13 PM (GMT)
Mystik - because she had an "M" on her head and we wanted something unique.
Marty - my brother-in-law named him.
Joey - named after Joey Ramone from The Ramones.
Lisa - December 30, 2006 06:00 PM (GMT)
Tabby: I was reading a list of female cat names to my family, and when I got to "Sydney" we all thought it was cute. So I said, what about a middle name? (It's a family thing - everyone needs a middle name! :lmao: ) We thought "Tabitha" was cute because she's a tabby. But we thought it sounded better the other way around - Tabitha Sydney! :luv1: But everyone calls her Tabby. ;)
Tucker: His initials had to match Tabby's - T.S. (That's another family thing! ;) ) Some of you may remember when I got him - I called him the "new kitty" for several days because naming him was hard. I was looking at male cat names starting with T. ;) "Tucker" sounded cute ... but the funny thing is, at the same time I got an e-mail from Laurie suggesting it! So what about a middle name? "Steven" of course! :rotfl: Tucker Steven! :luv1:

My tribe all have their given names, which is a descriptor of their personality, or their appearance, or how they came to be part of the tribe. Their second names are their "Jellicle names", from the musical "Cats", which is also where jellicle tribe comes from :kittyluv:
Turvy Demeter was the last to be adopted from her litter and is half of the twin duo "Topsy and Turvy". Demeter is her jellicle name.
Mischief Mistoffolees had the shelter name Mischief, and became M. Mistoffolees when he joined the tribe.
Diva Etcetera D'Calico was named Diva when my mom found her, the rest given to her when I brought her home.
Blondie Rumpleteaser, because she is such soft red to buff that she looks blonde all over.
Hobo Skimbleshanks because he rode into town in a railroad boxcar, a little orphaned Hobo (Skimbleshanks is also the railway cat in "Cats")
Peanut Butterum and Sassy Sasparilla: Peanut and Sassy were their shelter names
Trace Tumblebrutus was found as a stray on Cumberland Trace road, Tumblebrutus because he is missing a leg and Tumblebrutus was Growltigers bosun on his pirate barge in "Cats".
Jessica - December 30, 2006 08:13 PM (GMT)
Mickey was named after Mickey Mouse, because when he was a kitten... he had HUGE ears for his size. :)
Tucker - named after NHL player Darcy Tucker.
Billy - named after NHL player Billy Guerin.
Eddie - named after NHL player Eddie Belfour.
Marty - named after NHL player Marty Brodeur.
(yes, we are big hockey fans! lol)
Tommy - just a name we picked that suited him. We called him Robbie for a short time, but Tommy/Thomas suited him better, and stuck! :D
Melanie - December 30, 2006 09:25 PM (GMT)
Lola ~ After the Kinks song, "Lola".
Abbey ~ We called her that because we really liked the name Abbey for a child, but it is so common we figured we would never use it anyway.

Shadey - it looks like someone took a pencil and "shaded" him in. :lmao:
Elliott - I just have always loved the name, and thought it suited him.
Imhotep - I love anything to do with Ancient Egypt, and the name means "He who comes in peace.". :luv2:
King Tut - Sticking with the Egyptian theme.
Nefertiti - Egyptian theme.
Osiris - Egyptian theme.
Horus - Egyptian theme.
Cleopatra II - Again with the Egyptian theme, but she was named after my first Cleopatra who died exactly one month before her birth.
Isabella - She came with this name and I loved it. Her full registered name is Lumax Isabella of Balinan.

Hooray for X-Files! We once had a bird named QueeQueg.
Anyway, Monkey had his name from his previous owner. It really suited him, since he behaves like a crack monkey most of the time.
For Yoshi, the name was suggested by a friend. The people who found Yoshi had been calling him Captain Jack, but I just didn't think that suited him, but I couldn't think of anything that did, until my friend (who knows I like Japanese names) suggested Yoshi.
Ragdollmom - December 31, 2006 08:18 PM (GMT)
Emma -- I always liked the name, it also was short so it would be easy for her to understand.
Eugene-- my husband insisted :wha: ( His Name )
Jack -- That was his name when I adopted him It suited him and I liked it.
Linda
Gerald - December 31, 2006 09:37 PM (GMT)
Pippin, Merri & Sam
We both love the Lord of the Rings trilogy and wanted to name our Boyz after some of the Hobbits. I wasn't keen on Frodo so we choose PMS :rotfl: Rita's sister recently adopted a cat in Kingston and named him Frodo.
Lisalee - December 31, 2006 09:43 PM (GMT)
Will named Sash. He was originally named Sasha until we found out he was a little boy and then we just shortened it to Sash. :) Sounded a little more boyish I thought. My sweetheart. :luv2:
Allie - January 1, 2007 01:22 PM (GMT)
Milo- I picked out his name before I even saw him...I had a list of names for boys and girls...when I saw him at the SPCA I said there's my Milo. :luv2:
Georgie- well she was a neglected kitten (bad neighbor)...she came to our house nearly everyday for a month Oct/Nov2003. Finally we kept here in...Ty said lets name it George...just being silly. Anyway...I look at her private parts and said nope it's a George EEE or Georgia. General Hospital the soap was on at the time and they have a female character named Georgie. :lmao:
Lucky- we brought her/him home and within 10 minutes...I said you are so lucky to be here with us. DING DING DING ...Lucky is a cute name called Ty on his cell and said his name is Lucky. I wanted a neutral name in case.
The funny thing about all their names ...all 3 names are on General Hospital now. :lmao:
LuckyGeorgieThey don't have bio on Milo b/c he has a very small part. BUT when he is on. lol
Donaldjr1969 - January 1, 2007 02:31 PM (GMT)
Munchie:
Mom named him because he ate like a little munchkin.
Tooties:
Her original name was Princess. Somehow, she took on the name Princess Cutie Patootie which is now a nickname of hers. It was shortened to Tooties soon after.
Poopsie:
Her original name was Lucky due to the conditions in which her previous owner found her. However, it seemed she LOVED to come into the bathroom while I was in there and want to sit on my lap!!! :rotfl: So that is how she got the name Poopsie. And with her facial expressions, that name was very fitting for her. :)
Willie:
To be honest, I really do not know. I guess that was the first name that popped up...
Elizabeth - January 1, 2007 07:12 PM (GMT)
Nice little stories all! :)
Jones - after Ripley's orange cat in the movie Aliens
Sasha - I just love the name!
Marley - I wanted something different... And I like Bob Marley.
I also prefer giving my cats people-ish names! :wha: :)
Michelle - January 2, 2007 01:20 PM (GMT)
My boyfriend named Scratch - not cause she was scratching us or anything, more like what the kitty is doing in my avator. My boyfriend uses the turntables. ;)
Phoenix was a huge deal for some reason. But I've always liked the name and it was so hard to find a suitable name. So Phoenix was the only one everyone could agree on.
Bellas original name was Bonita - Spanish for beautiful. So we changed it to the Italian word beautiful - Bella
Glenn - January 2, 2007 02:04 PM (GMT)
When we adopted Cindy, her name at the time was Elise. She definitely did not look like an "Elise", so our family put several names in a hat and up came "Cindy".
We then look for a middle name for her, and chose "Lou"--so that made her Cindy Lou, as in Dr. Seuss's Grinch story (Cindy Lou Who).
Susan - January 2, 2007 07:48 PM (GMT)
Little Ed was named after the hyena from Lion King because he always has his tongue hanging out.
Timm was named after Tim Horton's Coffee
Mary Jane was...well you figure it out...
Fraulein Vonstashvitz evolved from Stash name after...well you figure it out....she is the daughter of Mary after all!

I've had mucho problems naming cats except for Rocket. His name came to me in about 10 seconds the first time I met him because it seemed all he wanted to do was "blast off." However, the other cats were harder to name. Mellie actually went by another name for a month until I decided it didn't fit. I tried out numerous names on Twinkie and finally settled on Twinkie because it was a name he seemed to respond to. So actually it was a name HE picked, because I don't partitcularly like it. Be he does, so that's fine. ;)

Lucifer Named after the cat in Cinderella, as well as the devil - it really fits him
Yayo honestly named by my first room mate sylvio - he is a really sketchy cat, - he fits his name very well too

My mom always told me to use names for kis that sounded good when you call them-like calling your kids from outside for dinner. Liiiiisaaaa. I also like names you can add a 'y' on or double-like Beaubo or Puppy.
WillyB is named for a juke joint in my then husband's home town. He walked and acted like a pimp, so it really fit him.
Mimi just looks like a sweet Mimi, and she really seemed to respond to the name.
Pup's full name is Pupkit because she sounded more like a dog then a kitten when she first moved in. She growled every time we touched her.
Bella's name doesn't follow the rules. She is so beautiful and stuck up, it had to be something elegant.
Brudder got his name from being one of the three brothers we fed outside. For a while they were Brother #1, 2, and 3. We named Beau first. Beau is just the sweetest, happiest little man. And he's so handosme! Beaubo is a great lovey name.
Brother #3 was named Oscar because he looked very much like an old fashioned elegant gentleman. Brother #2 was so much the big brother, taking care of the other 2, we named him Brudder.
We found out Oscar was a girl, and renamed her Ossie. Brudder has kind of evolved into Bubby, because he's a fat little bundle of bubby love. :luv1: And it fits the rules better. ;)
TxnKats - January 3, 2007 08:09 PM (GMT)
Misty - she was 4 when she came to live with us, so she was already named and it suits her.
Annie - she was 3 when she came to live with us, so already named, so we kept it!
Tao - I just think it's a great name for a cat!
Nekko - "Neko" is Japanese for "cat", I liked the sound of it, but wanted to personalize it, so I added an extra "k".
Tara - she was a stray we took in to foster when she had 7 kittens. Tara and all 7 kittens were given names from characters from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show. And I just happened to call Tara, Tara. Needless to say, she stayed and wasn't just a foster!
Precious - I had every intention of naming her Bella. But when I first held her all I could say was how precious she was, so I ended up naming her Precious.
Loki - named after the Norse God of Mischief. When I picked him up hit bit my finger! So, since I wanted a mythological name anyway, Loki fit him.
Donté - I just liked the name, but instead of spelling it Dante I personalized.
Sterling - We got him when he was 2, so he came with the name.
Velvet - Bengals are so soft, that I felt Velvet was fitting for a female!
Riley - I just really liked the name.
Anya - Anya was one of Tara's kittens, so she got a BTVS name.
Giles - Giles was one of Tara's kittens, so he got a BTVS name.
Oz - Oz was one of Tara's kittens, so he got a BTVS name.
Willow - Willow was one of Tara's kittens, so she got a BTVS name.
Nola - I adopted her in New Orleans, which is also called NOLA, so, I thought it was fitting and she responded to it right away.
Bandit - David named him because of his masked face...it fits!
Ono - He came to live with us when he was 3, so he came with the name and it suits him.
Belle - I adopted her at a cat show, with her brother, Cupid. They were born on Valentine's day, so I felt they needed a loving and/or romantic name. And one of my friends mentioned Belle and it suited her.
Cupid - I adopted him with Belle. He was born on Valentine's day, so what could be more fitting than Cupid for a "red head" born on Valentine's Day??
Takoda - I wanted a Native American name and that's the one I liked the best. It's Souix for "friend to all"
Dreamer - well, he IS very Dreamy!!!
Brown Kitty - She came with the name and since she's such a tom boy it suits her!
Ona - When I showed her to David he was like "Oh no!", so I made it girly and called her "Ona" and since she is very girly it fits her!
Tipsy - she has a little, tiny white tip on the end of her tail, so I thought "Tipsy" would be too cute and it is!
CP - even though I got him as a kitten he came with the name and it just fit him, so I didn't change it.
Archer - named after the Captian in Star Trek: Enterprise.
Mia - Well, she wasn't going to stay, another foster that was to have her babies here and leave, but didn't leave! And what fits a mom better than "Mama Mia!"? :lmao:
Domo - Got his name from the lyrics in Styx's "Mr. Roboto" : "Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto".
Leia - She was in my first and only Ragamuffin litter I raised, they had a Star Wars theme.
Skywalker - Leia's brother, so another Star Wars name.
Lacey - she came with the name and it is SO her!
Jet - a speedy type of guy named for the song "Leaving on a Jet Plane".
Rio - David named him that and it really fits him.
Boomer - he came with the name and it so fits him!
Catcher - he was a kitten we found in the middle of the road and proceeded to chase him all over the place to catch him, so Catcher fit.
Shinku - He came with the name. His full name is Shinku Rittou, which is Japanese for "Crimson Winter". My friend (who named him) found him in the Winter and he is a red tabby....though we call him Mr. Rittou most of the time!
Iko - When I first saw Iko the song "Iko, Iko An Dey" was playing, so I thought it would be a cute name.
Rozzie - she came with the name.
Hoshi - named after the communications officer on Star Trek: Enterprise (funny I have two cats named from that show get TNG was my favorite of all the series! :rotfl: ).
Spotz - came with the name and well, she is spotted!
Zeta - I just love the name!
Yuri - as soon as I saw his picture I just knew his name was Yuri.
Joker - The name just really fits his looks and personality!
Rocky - he was in Mia's litter and I had an alcohol name theme going on, he was "On the Rocks" which became "Rocky".
Kai - full name "Komakai Ichi" which is Japanese for "small one", which is perfect for a Singapura. And I like the sound of Kai!
SonyaMarie - January 3, 2007 09:48 PM (GMT)
Omg JJ DO YOU REALLY HAVE 40 SOME CATS???? holy... do they all live inside???
Crystal - January 3, 2007 10:19 PM (GMT)
Tinkerbell: We took her off the streets at 2 weeks old, she had been abandoned by her mother. She was a little white kitten with black markings, so tiny and dainty...and Erik came up with the name Tinkerbell, it fit her so well. Now that she's fully grown, she still fits her name - she's only about 9 pounds and very dainty and graceful.
Minnie: We adopted Minnie as a friend for Tinkerbell (she'd cry when we'd leave her alone when we had to go to class/work). My brother thought of the name - "mini" because she was smaller than Tinkerbell, and after Minnie Mouse because of her markings...starting our Disney/cartoon theme. :)
Jazmine: We took Jazmine in off the streets and thought we were going to take her to the SPCA - but when I was sitting in the bathroom with her (the only room she'd go in, she had been abused and was very scared) I thought of it - it was still in the Disney theme, and she looked like a Jazzy (for short - which is why we used a "Z" instead of an "S"). Now the name works even more because she is such a girly-girl..."Princess Jazmine" fits her quite well, lol!
Trixie: I randomly picked her up at Petsmart one day - went in for cat toys, came out with a cat! She's only got three legs, but she's probably one of the fastest cats we have, lol. She was just burning around my mom's house (I was visiting them for the weekend when I adopted her) and my mom suggested the name of Speed Racer's girlfriend - Trixie. It fits her so well, too - it's a fun, playful name and that's her personality to a T.
Figaro: We originally named him Hercules because he was such a big, strong looking cat...but the name just didn't fit him. He was laying on my chest one night and I remembered the name of the cat in Pinocchio - I had a stuffed animal of him growing up. And I knew right away it fit him - we call him Fig and Figgy for short.
Penny: The most striking thing about Penny is her eyes - originally I wanted to name her Emerald and call her Emmy for short. But for some reason that didn't stick...so I went looking for the names of the puppies in 101 Dalmations, and Penny was one...and it fits her, it's a pretty little name.

In the order that they wer adopted:
Midnight: My live in boyfrind (at the time) thought it was an appropriate name for her.
Caleb: I just liked the name :luv1:
Molokini: We love Hawaii and wanted to name him by that. Molokini is a long skinny crater off the Island of Maui. It seemed fitting for him :)
Hamlet (goes by Hammie most of the time, unless he gets in trouble):Brent came up with it out of the blue.
For The Beeper's: We both wanted to name them...but this is how it turned out.
Cody: I got to name, we both liked the name
Heidi: I wanted to name her Snuggles but Brent didn't like that name :lmao: So he came up with Heidi which is so much more fitting for her now that we know her.
Coco: I named her. Not sure why..it just came to me :luv1:
Amanda (Mandy): Brent named her almost before we got her home. :lmao:

Midnight -- that was the name she was given by her previous owners and I thought it fit her.
Star -- When he was born, he had a bit of white fur that went up into a point on his forehead and together with his unopened eyes, reminded me of a star.
Lucky -- He needed a little help with his breathing after he was born as his little lungs were filled with fluid and he also had a weak heartbeat. After suctioning out the liquid from his lungs and wrapping him in a thick wascloth to rub his little body and rubbing his little chest vigorously, the mew that I was rewarded with led me to look at him and say, "You're a lucky boy, you know that?" And he's been Lucky ever since.

Moogy was named after a character in Star Trek Deep Space Nine
Keiko was named after a character in Star Trek The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine (see a pattern? ;) )
Pixelle's name was chosen before we got her... we knew that we were going to have a new little baby siamese and we knew that her mommy was tortie point so we thought she was going to be tortie point too... so I thought that the name Pixel would be cute for her and I haded "le" at the end of the name to make it more feminine since in french "elle" means "she"... :)
