Title: My beloved Keekus
Description: Had her from Jan 1976 to Feb 1994

Donaldjr1969 - January 4, 2007 07:48 PM (GMT)
Every one of us has a cat that really was a big part of our lives. I am no exception. That cat is my Keekus. I have no idea HOW I named her that! But I basically grew up with her. She was close to one year old when I first got her so that made her 19 human years when she had to be put down.

Anyway, here she is!!! :)

Awww, she's pretty. Thanks for sharing, how great you got to spend 19 years with her. I can only hope that all our kitties live to be that old. :)

My bad. I thought you wanted The Bridge for recently departed kitties/pets.

I will never forget that sad sorrowful night of 2-23-1994. After I laid her to rest (in a raging rainstorm, I might add), I eventually was able to fall asleep. I was awoken that night by what I SWEAR was her! I KNOW I felt something jump on the bed. And I was partially awake too because everything on my bed was the same before and after. But I swore I saw a young and HEALTHY Keekus, like how she was in the 70s and 80s, running on my bed and purring. When I reached over to pet her, poof, gone! I suspect that was her soul taking a moment away from the bridge to tell me she was OK.

Many fond memories of her, but my favorite was on Christmas 1978. I got her a Hartz catnip mouse and gave it to her on Christmas morning. She just went nuts over it. About 30 minutes later, I hear my mom giving Keekus the 3rd degree! Apparently Keek had shredded opn the thin fabric on the catnip mouse and had catnip strewn all over the basement!!!!! :rotfl: Mom was yelling at her, but Keekus was all glassy-eyed from the catnip. She just looked at mom as if to say HUH?? :rotfl:

Awwww...what beautiful memories you have of Keekus Donald... what a beauty. I love the pic of her with the papers bags.

We share a similar story in that a very unique cat named Mitten I had years ago had diabetes...after him having it for 3 yrs, he became very sick with keytones and he had to be put down... it too was at night during a raging thunderstorm. I remember going outside to the parking lot and just bawling and crying in the rainstorm over having lost him.... My heart goes out to you...

I'm sorry for your loss. :comfort:
She was a very pretty kitty! :kittyluv:
I wish Dixie could have lived long, but it didn't turn out that way. :(
Sounds like she was a great cat to have! :kittyluv: :)

When I first saw this thread listed in new posts, I though "Oh no!! Don has lost a kitty!!" I didn't read the subtitle. Then I read the first post and I thought "Whew, that was a long time ago." Then I thought, "Now that's stupid. A loss is a loss. After all this time it still hurts."

So, Don, I'm glad and I'm sad. But I'm no longer confused. I understand loss. I lost something precious in 1994, too, and it still hurts.

It's a good thing you've got photographs to remember.

:luv2: Oh she looked like a femal version of my Osiris! So precious! :luv1:

She was so beautiful , Donald.
I remember my Eskie came to me in dreams several times after his passing....the last one I remember he was healthy and well.....I think it's their way of letting us know, they're ok in their next journey :luv1:

She was Beautiful, I hope my Kitties live that long too, 19 years with Lucifer will be awesome

Thank you so much, everybody. I figured I would post them because she was so adorable! :kittyluv: And since she was the last kitty I had before getting Munchie in 1995, I figured I would take some pix I had scanned and post them. Yeah, Keekus has been gone now for nearly 13 years, but I still love her a lot. She was a wonderful kitty and I merely wanted to tell all my cat lovers here about her. Plus, she loved having her photograph taken!!!

I could smack myself though! In 1976, Mom took a photo of her after she successfully grabbed a fish my father caught right out of a minnow bucket!!!!! The photo is here somewhere, I think. I will probably find it some day. But I should have scanned it long ago. :(

She was a doll! I'm glad you posted her pictures and told her story.

Hugs,
Donna :kittyluv:

I just wish I had the photos of her licking my hair! She loved to do that even to the point of waking me up 3 times one night. I also remember throwing those Hi-Bounce balls around the basement and having her chase it down and bring it back to me. :P

But sometimes I wonder if once they cross the bridge, they do not send us a cat that has similar mannerisms? Poopsie has the most Keekus-like mannerisms of my 4.

Cute avatar, Don!! Does the roll ever run out?

PS - what does it say on there; I can't quite make it out?

It says *evil laugh*
Donald, to make the avatar not blurry looking, try going into your avatar settings and change the size to 100x100 at the bottom. :)

:luv1: She was lovely! RIP Keekus!

Rest in Peace Keekus, you had a very good long life and now it's time to play at the Bridge.
Donald, I had the same experience as you, only it was my Mom in 1994 that came to see me 6 months after she died. She died at 54, but when I saw her she looked 25.
