I use to have a leather couch before I had cats, I was thinking of getting another but now I have three cats I'm not so sure. They don't scratch on my furniture at all they have the cat tree and posts. I'm thinking just walking or running on it my scratch the surface.

Does any one have leather furniture?

8.gif No, but if you keep the claws clipped then they won't be sharp enough to pentrate the leather!

They don't scratch our leather like they did the fabric furniture-I don't think it's the proper texture for that. The only real problem we have is when they run across it or jump up and slip, their claws sometimes scratch across it. We don't have any really bad, noticeable scratches, but there are some light ones if you look for them.

Make sure you get leather that has a really deep finish on it-so that is they scratch, the color underneath is the same as the top and it won't show as much. And it would probably be better to have a medium to light color instead of something like black.

We've had less problems with leather than we did microsuede. We had a lot of permanent scratches on that. Leather has been surprisingly resilient for us.

The cats aren't real crazy about laying on it without a blanket. user posted image

Both our Living room and Family room sofas are leather 38.gif They don't use them at all as a scratching post. The only problem we have is on the set in the Living Room ... there are a LOT of scratch marks from when the Boyz have their 'goofy' moments and run like crazy 6.gif I don't think the set is of the best quality either and that makes a difference. The sofa in the Family room hardly has a mark on it 29.gif
When we had a fabric sofa, our first cat was constantly scratching at it even though she was declawed (we adopted her that way) so the corners of the sofa weren't scratched but they were always dirty from her paws 66.gif
I agree that's its probably the texture of the leather that doesn't interest them for scratching purposes.

Someone a while back had mentioned that cats won't use leather because they don't like the texture or something. My dad has a leather couch and his cat doesn't use it. There are some scratch marks from him running around on it and jumping on it, but he's not shredding it! 8.gif

I have a leather couch... There are little scratches if you focus in a few areas, but it's mostly unnoticable. Suzie doesn't scratch the couch, and Dixie didn't either, so that really isn't a problem here.

30.gif Yeah right...mine find a way to ruin it...they'll chew it. They ruined a pair of my leather shoes, Ty's boot and my fake leather jacket Milo 10.gif

My roomate has this leather chair and when Phoenix was small he used to scratch it all the time. 44.gif Well he left his mark on it, but now isn't interested in it 19.gif

Mystik and Marty did claw a little on our leather couch but after a few scoldings they got the hint.

Joey doesn't claw on it at all.

Thanks for all the input, My three don't always fun across the furniture so maybe it will be leather. No cat hair is a plus. 29.gif
