Nope those were mice that Ty 40.gif 48.gif brought home. Of course I got attached to the stinky mice...then heard that rats aren't as stinky and much more affectionate. 63.gif
It really bothers me when people ask us, "Do you feed rats to your piranhas?" No, for one...they aren't that great for them, 2. that would definately dirty the tank and 3...I then show the person my pets rats. 30.gif Then they get the picture. 60.gif

I have one that looks just like that! But he was going to be snake food until the snake went into hibernation for the winter. 48.gif Now I am stuck feeding a rat! Its starting to grow on me, I like how he comes running for food. Can I ask what you feed it? I have just been giving him apples, cheese, crackers and whatever might be in my fridge.

I have 2 males who look identical...the other guys isn't very friendly. But Timbit is so much like a cat it's weird.
I just buy rat food in the rodent section at our petstore...you can also buy the gerbill/hamster food it's pretty much the same as rat food but rat food has dried vegie/fruit, peanuts and rat formula like cat food pieces but a bit bigger. Fresh fruit and vegies are really good for them as long as they aren't gassy like cabbage and onions. Cheese is ok, but only as a treat. 29.gif

I used to have a rat. They were great, except when they scratched up your arm when they were crawling on you 60.gif and it looked like the one you showed us!

Please dont feed male rats oranges. It will kill them.
Rats are omnivores, yet they eat more vegetables.
Too many veggies at one sitting will cause runny poo.
Here are some of my rats favorites.
Frozen green peas, Bok Choy, Broccli.

I have to say that hamster food is very different nutritionally from rat food.
A rat fed mostly hamster food will get very fat.
Your rat needs protein, if you feed them seed mix they eat lots of seeds, nuts, etc., Your rat may end up getting all scabby from getting way too much fat.

If you can find sugar free and salt free dehydrated fruits....they are also very healthy for rats. Alot of rats love bananas too.

Some rats take a liking to a good quality dog kibble too.

Here is a favorite....cooked noodles and tomato sauce,
for a nice treat.

8.gif Thanks for the tips....I feed my rats....rat formula, some fresh vegies but not too much fruit being as they don't seem to like it as much. 58.gif
